- ePortal is the Agencys integrated environment
for accessing information, conducting business,
and managing operations. - Deliver applications using the ePortal toolset
- Automate manual business process where there is
added value in automation - Champion cultural change and promote the value of
adding to and maintaining the Agency knowledge
base - Use the ePortal as the primary communications
channel

- My Pages - Your personalized view of the portal.
Each My Page displays portlets that you choose
and several default portlets. - Communities - Sites within the portal designed
for a specific audience or task. Community
managers determine the portlets, layout, and
preferences within a community. - Portlets - Provide users with customized tools,
services and information - Projects - Collaborative workspaces.
- Knowledge Directory - The portals document
library.

Portlets are outlined in Red. Portlets are
mini-applications
6My Pages vs. Community Pages
- Users may personalize their own My Pages
- May create up to six MyPages
- Control the content that is presented on their My
Pages - Users may join communities each community may
have multiple pages. - Some communities are created as mandatory
communities - Community Managers control the content that is
presented on Community Pages

- Communities are sites within the ePortal designed
for a specific audience or task - Project Collaboration
- Business Lines (Accounting Community)
- Product Lines (Internal Review)
- Locations (Denver)
- Services (Self Help)
- The portlets, layout community preferences are
determined by Community Managers.

Mouse over the Communities Tab to view
Communities you are a member of. Choose the
Client Executive Community.

nine pages, including the home page. Click on
the Navy page to view one of the Community Pages.

- Portlets provide users with customized tools,
services and information - Increase ePortal flexibility by allowing
integration to applications, tools, and services
on the ePortal. - Also known as gadgets
- Use Windows-style controls

- Projects facilitate teamwork, allowing team
members to share documents, set schedules and
exchange messages - Changes that occur as the project moves ahead are
immediately reflected in the information
displayed to project users - Users may participate in more than one project
- Only project members can see a project and access
any of its features - Project features available

Click on the Documents Tab
Click on a Document Folder to browse content.

Note You can move back up the folder hierarchy.
Click the title to open a piece of content

- Similar to a Windows Explorer File system
- Documents are arranged in folders and subfolders
- Folders contain information housed in the Content
Management System - Documentum - Content managers may publish content to the
knowledge directory - The Document Search in the top right hand corner
of the ePortal searches through the Knowledge
Directory.

Typing a keyword in the Document Search Text box
will do a full text index search of all the
content in the Knowledge Directory
Clicking on the Go button will execute your
search

By Clicking on the Advanced tab, you will be
able to execute a more fine tuned search query.

- Requirements
- DoD PKI Certificate -- either a soft
certificate or a DoD-issued CAC card - ePortal Sponsor -- Your DFAS point of contact who
can identify what ePortal resources you should
access - Actions
- Send a digitally signed email to your ePortal
sponsor - Your sponsor then forwards to an ePAA (ePortal
Approving Authority). Sponsors may be ePAAs as
well. - DFAS Mid-Tier team creates an ePortal account and
replies back to the ePAA / Sponsor when complete - The ePAA / Sponsor lets you know the action is
complete - URL https//eportal.dfas.mil
