Data Taking StatisticsWeek of 2002 December 9-15
  • Corrections to determine Physics Lumi Events to
    Tape
  • Interface Board Crate tripped 1800 Dec 12th
  • Ran without 1/8th of our Silicon for last six
    hours of Store 2070
  • Recorded 231 nb-1 684k events of marginal
    Physics quality
  • Special Run Muon Pixel threshold study
  • Performed during destructive End of Store studies
    on Dec 14th
  • Needed Luminosity information for normalization
  • Recorded 4 nb-1 161k of non-Physics events

14 Hours of downtime deadtime affected our
efficiency
  • Physics Recorded Lumi of 4.0 pb-1 or 70.0 of
    Delivered Lumi
  • ? Recorded 7.6 million Physics Quality Events

Unbearable Sources of Downtime
gt8.5 hours!
Friday the 13th
  • 1.5 hrs Trigger Framework Readout Crate
    missing or sending garbage
  • Two failure modes misdirected shifters
    experts to other possible problems
  • 1.4 hrs Begin Store SMT HV Problems
  • Inexperienced shifters, 3AM begin of stores
    incorrect HV status in GUI
  • 2.4 hrs Online Cluster Hang Reboot
  • A presumably safe umount command hung, followed
    by a domino effect
  • 1.5 hrs Muon rate test to debug MDT and PDT
    failures
  • 0.9 hrs SMT HDIs prevented readout
  • 0.6 hrs Loaded untested Muon FE code

These two problems cost us three hours in total
Del. Lumi

Other D0 News
  • Took advantage of the never-ending controlled
access opportunity on Mon Dec 9th
  • Muon PDT HV problem fixed
  • FPD commissioning
  • Trigger L1 CTT L1 Muon
  • SMT Rack Interface Crate tripped off 1800 Thu
    Dec 12th
  • Requested granted 20 min CA after end of Store
    2070
  • While waiting for magnets to be powered down,
expert continued to play remotely with the GUI
  • Unexpectedly, the remote reset worked this time
  • Temperature, Magnets, New Day?
  • Did a proof of principle run with all SMT before
confirming with MCR that we did not need access
  • Crossed fingers. Will replace RM during January
    shutdown
  • When I'm good, I'm very good. But, when I'm bad,
    I'm better.
  • Mae West from Im No Angel
  • Despite the large amount of downtime, we had some
of our best data taking efficiency last weekon a
    run by run basis
  • Seven 3 hour runs with 90 or better efficiency
    (Rec/Del Lumi)
  • 7 out of the 17 runs to date
  • All systems w/no known problems
  • Even better, three of them were at initial lumi gt
2.4E31 which we had never done before
  • Ending on a high note
  • Dec 15th single best day for D0 Recorded
    Luminosity 1.2 pb-1

Plans for Upcoming Week
  • Lessons were learned from problems last week
  • Trigger Framework Readout Crate monitoring
    power glitches
  • System changes performed between stores
  • Or at EOS if beam is required for system check
  • Silicon HV monitoring ramping procedures
    being upgraded
  • Next Friday the 13th not until June 2003!
  • Preparing for Supervised Access on Tue Dec 17th
  • A number of jobs queued up mainly for Trigger
Commissioning integration of FPD into global
    readout
  • Run Plan for Holiday Period Dec 16th Jan 5th
  • Limited personnel, shifters and experts
  • Non-critical tests changes will be postponed
  • Conservative rates stress stability
