13TAM AAR Tactics, Techniques Procedures
- Good facilitation of an AAR ensures that all
present get a chance to provide input and the AAR
is not just a briefing of what happened.
Facilitation opens discussion, allowing those
present to participate and share ideas.
C-24 7th ID FC Reg 350-2-1 ? 23-Jan-02
14TAM AAR Tactics, Techniques Procedures
- Identify a note taker to capture highlights,
issues, suspenses etc., which occur or are
contracted during the AAR. - After the Commander briefs Phase I (what occurred
during IDT weekends in preparation for AT)
facilitate a discussion covering things the unit
needs to sustain and improve. Discussion should
focus around tasks trained, leader validation and
soldier level training during IDT in preparation
for AT. Ask the unit what training best prepared
them for AT, and what could be done to better
prepare.
C-25 7th ID FC Reg 350-2-1 ? 23-Jan-02
15TAM AAR Tactics, Techniques Procedures
- When showing assessment and valuation of METL
and supporting tasks, keep ratings covered up
(Phase I II). Allow the leaders to tell the
commander and evaluator what their assessments
are (company, platoon squad). This facilitates
discussion on the tasks, and insures the
commander understands where and how his/her
leaders rate themselves and their unit. Then
present ratings.
C-26 7th ID FC Reg 350-2-1 ? 23-Jan-02
16TAM AAR Tactics, Techniques Procedures
- When a problem is identified, dont stop at
identification. Ensure all understand the
problem, and why it occurred. What really caused
the problem must be identified (most critical
step in problem solving). Identify potential
solutions, who will solve it, and when it will be
solved (timeline or suspense's).
