Plagiarism is.....
According to the Merriam-Webster Online
Dictionary (http//www.m-w.com/dictionary/plagiar
izing) plagiarize means.... to steal and pass
off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
use (another's production) without crediting
the source.Or... to commit literary theft -
present as new and original an idea or product
derived from an existing source.
Its stealing!!!

Plagiarizing can result in students receiving
an F or zero for their assignment. A
referral may be written. At the college level,
students have been suspended or even expelled
from the college or university for
plagiarizing!!!

6
  • The most important reason to not plagiarize is
that it robs YOU of refining your research and
    thinking skills!
  • Today... learning to effectively search for
    information is a LIFE SKILL!!!
  • You plagiarize... YOU LOSE!

7
I heard its not plagiarism if the person who
wrote it is already dead. Is that right???
WRONG! Dead or alive... I must be credited with
what I created!

Hey... I paraphrased! I read several sources...
and put it all into my own words! Is that OK???
Thats GOOD! Its exactly what you SHOULD do!
However... paraphrasing still requires a
citation! You still give credit to the book,
person, web site, etc., where you got the
information!

9
  • Make sure you realize... that paraphrasing is
MORE than just changing a few words around in the
    sentence!

10
  • Purdue University Online Writing Lab suggests
    steps to effective paraphrasing...
  • Read... and reread the original passage until
    you understand its full meaning.

paraphr.html
11
Set the original aside, or move away from the
computer... and write your paraphrase WITHOUT
the original page!
12
Dont forget to check your version with the
original to make sure that you have been accurate!
I did a good job!

or phrase you borrowed exactly from the source.
