Title: Principles for Godly Parenting
1Principles for Godly Parenting
- Develop Godly Character
- Proverbs 2915
2Proverbs 2915
- The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child
left to himself brings shame to his mother
3Steady discipline by the rod (of firm authority
and consistent appropriate punishments.) and by
godly corrections and rebukes teach a child how
to live wisely. (responsibly, obedient to all
authority, and in awe of God)
4But a child left without such discipline and
training will live foolishly, irresponsibly,
irreverently and perhaps illegally and so bring
shame to his mother whose primary maternal
responsibilities are, not only to bear but also
to train her children.
51. The Rod
- The Rod speaks of firm parental authority.
- Speaks of predictable appropriate punishments
that are given to the children for deliberately
breaking down household rules.
6Disobedience Pain
72. Reproof
- Speaks of calm, compassionate, verbal correction,
that is constructive criticism, or the corrective
truth spoken in love. - When children have done something the wrong way,
parents must take the time to tell them the right
wayagain and againand again and again.
8Matthew Henry wrote
- If a reproof will serve without the rod, it is
well, but the rod must never be used without a
rational and grave reproof then it will give
wisdom
9Rod Reproof Wisdom
10Opposite is True
- Withholding such discipline from our children, or
abandoning it after a season because of its
inherent difficulty, invariably leads us and our
offspring to two very unpleasant destinations
Their foolishness and our shame
11Proverbs 2915
- A child left to himself bringeth His mother to
shame
12Child left alone shame

- Selfish Ambition
