  • Cardiovascular shock can be an unseen enemy.
  • This condition robs organs, tissues, and cells
    of needed oxygen as well as nutrients necessary
    for survival.

Definition of Shock
  • Shock is when a persons blood pressure has
    dropped suddenly and drastically.

  • If victim is not treated. Death could result

  • 1.Failure of the heart to pump sufficient blood.

  • 2. Severe blood or fluid loss so that there is
    insufficient blood traveling through the system.

Signs and Symptoms of Shock?

  • Breathing that is shallow, labored, rapid,
    possibly irregular, or gasping.
  • Eyes that are dull or lusterless with dilated
    pupils.
  • Marked thirst.
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Fainting in cases of rapidly developing transient
    shock.

Treatment
  • Elevate the feet.
  • Loosen tight or uncomfortable clothing.
  • Move the victim out of the elements and to a
    comfortable place.
  • Do not give liquids
  • In the winter, keep the victim warm.
  • In the summer, loosen the victims clothing and
    keep him or her at a normal temperature.
  • Do not leave the patient.
  • Call 911.

  • Electrical Shock occurs when a person comes into
    contact with an electrical energy source.

  • What do you do?
  • Be very careful that you are not the second
    victim to be shocked.
  • Call the power company to remove electrical
    devices causing high voltage shock.
  • If it is safe to do so, disconnect the power
    supply.
  • If the victim is showing multiple jerks, a fall
    may have also occurred which caused neck and back
    injuries.
  • Do not move the victim.
  • Check the ABCs.
  • Begin CPR if necessary.
