action plan of the Luxembourg Government Press

3Environmental technologies or eco-technologies
in the context of the governmental program
- The governmental program of the year 2004
foresees an economic multi-specialisation
diversification strategy focusing on specific
sectors. - The following sectors have been addressed
- - Logistics action plan
- - Health technologies action plan
- - Environmental technologies action plan NEW
- The environmental technologies action plan has
been adopted by the government on 9th January,
2009.

- Economic develop the environmental
technologies market as a new diversification
path to strengthen the Luxembourg economy. - Develop existing companies in that market and
boost exports of their products and services - Encourage traditional companies to make a move
towards sustainable production processes and
markets - Bring support to new companies, start-ups
setting up their business. - Bringing in foreign companies to invest in
Luxembourg - Environmental
- Improve productivity of natural resources and
reduce environmental concerns - Encourage the utilisation of environmental
technologies, foster research and development
and innovation in the field

- Screening of the Luxembourg eco-technologies

What about Luxembourg?
- Cartography set up by Luxinnovation (September
2008) - 188 eco-companies
- mainly in the renewable energy sector, waste,
water, eco-construction - 28 public agencies active in the field
- 6 research institutes
8Actions foreseen
- Promotion on the national level in order to
create new activities. - Launching of the EcoDev cluster in the
environmental technologies and the
sustainable development field by Luxinnovation.
(February 2009) - - Follow-up on the list of companies already
active in the field, - - Encourage networking of companies and research
labs - - Offer guidance on the national and European
environmental and eco-innovation incentive
schemes - - Increase the number of environmental
technologies pilot projects and research

9Actions foreseen
- 2) Research and development
- Increase financing of research projects
- e.g. CORE program environment section
- 2,5 million Euros in 2008 -gt 5,0 million Euros
in 2009 - 3) A new environmental aid regime is under
construction - Allow for the newly adopted incentive measures
granted by the European Commission to be
deployed. - e.g. grant government support to finance
feasibility studies for companies willing to
deploy environmental technologies. -

- 4) Boost exports of eco-technologies made in
Luxembourg - - Support already established companies to
export their products and services abroad. - 5) Promote Luxembourg as a business location for
eco-tech companies- Board of Economic
Development - - promote Luxembourg as a centre of excellency
in the field of environmental technologies - - engage into a proactive approach in this
market in order attract companies to invest in
Luxembourg. -
11Coordination
- The rollout of the action plan will be managed by
the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade. - The Ministry of Environment will work in close
collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and
Foreign Trade's team to follow-up on the actions
taken. - An inter-ministerial steering committee will help
streamline the decisions taken. - Every stakeholder needed will be taken on board
in order to guarantee success. -
