- On 24 November 2000, ASEAN Heads of
Government signed the e-ASEAN Framework
Agreement. -

Agreement
- Establish the ASEAN Information Infrastructure
through inter-connection of the national
information infrastructures - Facilitate growth of electronic commerce
- Liberalize trade and investment in ICT
- Facilitate trade in ICT products and services
- Build capacity and an e-Society
- Promote the use of ICT applications in the
delivery of government services (e-Gov)

- Last year, 2003 was an important year for
e-ASEAN ICT. It marked the finalization of the
transfer of a major portion of the stewardship to
implement the e-ASEAN Framework Agreement from
the ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) to the
Telecommunications and Information Technology
Ministers (TELMIN). -
11TELSOM Working Groups
- TELSOM is supported by the following Working
Groups (WG) - WG on ASEAN Information Infrastructure
- WG on e-Commerce ICT Trade Facilitation
- WG on e-Society ICT Capacity Building
- WG on Universal Access,Digital Divide
e-Government
12ASEAN Telecommunications Regulatory Council (ATRC)
- Regulatory Body that reports to TELMIN
- ATRC has a Joint Sectoral Committee overseeing
the implementation of the Mutual Recognition
Arrangement (MRA) on Telecommunications standards
and equipment.
13e-ASEAN Working Group (EAWG)
- The e-ASEAN Working Group (EAWG) was tasked by
the AEM to implement the e-ASEAN Framework
Agreement. - With the transfer of the stewardship to TELMIN,
the EAWG now refocus on AEMs work such as
fast-track integration of the e-ASEAN sector,
promotion and liberalization of ICT trade and
services.
