The Man With Such Great Faith!

Luke 71-10 Now when He concluded all His
sayings in the hearing of the people, He entered
Capernaum. 2 And a certain centurion's servant,
who was dear to him, was sick and ready to die. 3
So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of
the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and
heal his servant. 4 And when they came to Jesus,
they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one
for whom He should do this was deserving, 5 "for
he loves our nation, and has built us a
synagogue.

6 Then Jesus went with them. And when He was
already not far from the house, the centurion
sent friends to Him, saying to Him, "Lord, do not
trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You
should enter under my roof. 7 "Therefore I did
not even think myself worthy to come to You. But
say the word, and my servant will be healed. 8
"For I also am a man placed under authority,
having soldiers under me. And I say to one, 'Go,'
and he goes and to another, 'Come,' and he
comes and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does
it. 9 When Jesus heard these things, He marveled
at him, and turned around and said to the crowd
that followed Him, "I say to you, I have not
found such great faith, not even in Israel! 10
And those who were sent, returning to the house,
found the servant well who had been sick.

Centurion

• Captain of 100 men in the Roman Army
• One of four centurions in the N. T.
• There was one at the cross (Matt 2754)
• There was Cornelius (Acts 101-2, 22)
• There was Julius (Acts 271, 42-43)
• All seem to be men of noble qualities

• Every man is really 3 men
• The man his enemies think he is
• The man his friends think he is
• The man he thinks he is
• A fourth man
• The man he REALLY is

What theNeighbors Thought

• Based upon what they had seen
• They approved of him
• What would our neighbors say about us?
• In matters what others think (1 Pet 211-12)
• We are to be lights (Phil 215)
• We are to be a good neighbor (Matt 516)

What He Thought

• Based on the examination of his heart
• A sincere self estimate
• He knew himself better than they
• Great humility (Matt 2312 1 Cor 211)
• He was judging himself by a higher standard
• (2 Cor 1012)
• A thorough examination will profit all of us
• 2 Corinthians 135 1 Corinthians 1128)

What JesusKnew About Him

• The Lord marveled
• This mans great faith (v9)
• Some have little faith (Matt 826)
• Some have dead faith (James 217)
• What about your faith?
• Would the Lord marvel at how great it is?
• Heb 116 1039 Gal 56

• Each estimate of the centurion was true from each
  persons viewpoint
• However it is the Lords approval that counts

that is what we REALLY are!
