Apollo 12 SWS

• The Solar Wind Spectrometer was designed with
  the objective of detecting whatever solar wind
  plasma might strike the surface of the Moon. The
  instrument consisted of an array of seven
  modulated Faraday cups.

The center cup faces vertically upward and the
six other cups are equally spaced at 60 degrees
from the vertical. All points in the lunar sky
are observed by at least one cup.

Apollo 12 and Apollo 15 Sites
At the Apollo 15 location, the magnetic field is
low, but at Apollo 12, the magnetic field is
about 38 nT. This can perturb the solar wind.
