Mercury
  • Closest planet to the Sun.
  • Surfaces many thousands of impact craters as a
result of being bombarded by objects since the
    solar systems early days.
  • Has no protective atmosphere
  • The temperature on the surface ranges from
extremely hot on the side facing the Sun to
extremely cold on the side that faces away from
    the Sun.

3
Venus
  • Named after Romand goddess of love and Beauty.
  • A very unpleasant place that features high
    temperatures,
  • The wind blows hundreds of miles per hour.
  • Is an example of a runaway greenhouse effect on
    planetary scale.

4
Earth
  • Our home
  • Very beautiful place with the most varied surface
    in entire solar system.
  • From the distance looks like a big blue marble.

5
Mars
  • The Red Planet named after the Roman god of War.
  • A distinctive rust color
  • It is seen easily through a small telescope.
  • Many mountains, canyons and polar ice caps.
  • Also at one time it harbored some kind of life,
    but still researching about it.

6
Jupiter
  • Largest planet in solar system.
  • Has at least sixty-one moons
  • Features the Great Red Spot, which is a huge
    storm

7
Saturn
  • One of the most beautiful plants.
  • Fascinating ring around it
  • Saturn has so many moons that it is like a
    miniature solar system

8
Uranus
  • One giant gas planet
  • Mysterious blue-green color
  • Has a faint ring system which we didnt know
existed until the planet was visited by Voyager
    spacecraft.

9
Neptune
  • Has winds that blow hundreds of miles per hour
  • A moon the features geysers of nitrogen that
erupt and leave dark marks on the surface.

10
Pluto
  • Smallest and most mysterious planet.
  • Farthest from the sun that it is just a dim
    point.
  • Has one moon, Charon. This is just about the
    size of the planet.
