Rhythm
  • Rhythm-pattern of sound created by stressed and
    unstressed syllables. It does not have to form a
    regular pattern.

Meter
  • Meter-regular pattern of stressed and unstressed
    syllables.
  • sets the overall rhythm of certain poem
  • Stressed syllables are marked with (')
  • Unstressed syllable are marked with (?)

Other Sound Devices
  • Alliteration-repeating of consonant sounds at the
    beginning of words.
  • Assonance-repeating of vowel sounds within a
    line.
  • Onomatopoeia-use of a word or phrase that
    imitates the sound of what is described.
