  • Our purpose in life
  • Allah tells us in the Quran
  • "And I have not created the Jin and man but that
    they worship Me" Quran 5157
  • Our main purpose in this life is to worship
    Allah.
  • By obeying his commands
  • And abstaining from what he forbade
  • If we look at how we live our lives
  • How much of our actions really reflect or
    contradict this purpose?
  • Our Eman (faith) decrease and increase with sins
    and worship.

5
  • Story
  • a time after the prophets death (SAW)
  • a group of people gathered in the masjid to do
    (loud group thikr)
  • the sahaba told them, what is this bidaah you
    are doing?
  • The prophets clothes are still here, and his
pots have not yet broken, and his sahaba are
still amongst you, and you managed to make this
    innovation (bidah)?
  • Either you want to be better than the religion
of the prophet, or you have brought halaak
    destruction on yourselves.

6
  • MISTAKE 1 INNOVATION IN THE RELIGION
  • This day, I have perfected your religion for
you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen
for you Islam as your religion Quran 53
  • I have left two things behind me for you (the
Ummah) You will never go astray as long as you
follow them the Quran and the Sunnah (Malik)
  • Whoever innovates something in this matter of
ours Islam that is not a part of it, will have
    it rejected. (Bukhari Muslim)
  • Islam is perfected
  • and we must be aware of adding new things to it.

7
  • We read fatiha17 times each day, and ask Allah
    to
  • Guide us to the straight path The path of
those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of
those who have evoked Your anger or of those
    who are astray 16-7

8
  • Examples of common innovations
  • Making up new Muslim celebrations other than the
    two Eids
  • Eid al-mawlid celebration
  • Laylat al-miraaj celebration
  • Gathering in the night of Ramadan and assigning a
certain chapter to each person, so that we all
finish the Quran in one night
  • Singing thikr together
  • You might find some people justifying it, but go
back to the Quran and Sunnah and see what it says

9
  • As a general rule
  • In everyday lives
  • it is Halal until clear evidence (Quran /
hadeeth) speaks against it (i.e. eating
    something, wearing something)
  • In ibadah (worship)
  • DONT DO a type of ibada until you know clear
    evidence supporting it
  • otherwise you might be coming up with an bidah
    (innovation) in the religion

10
  • MISTAKE 2 SPEAKING ABOUT ALLAH AND ISLAM WITHOUT
    KNOWLEDGE
  • Example
  • online forums or yahoo answers
  • What do you think about this matter in Islam?
    What is your opinion?
  • well I think this, and I think that
  • They dont realize they are giving a Fatwa
  • without referring to credible scholars and
providing evidence from Quran and Sunnah

11
  • Say, "My Lord has only forbidden immoralities
(fawahish) what is apparent of them and what is
concealed and sin, and oppression without
right, and that you associate with Allah that for
which He has not sent down authority, and that
you say about Allah that which you do not know.
    Al-aarfaf33
  • Othman was asked about his opinion on the Quran
  • He answered What sky or earth will hold me if I
    give my opinion on Quran?
  • In the end of this world
  • Allah will take away the knowledge
  • by taking the knowledgeable scholars
  • only the ignorant ppl will remain,
  • and people will ask them for fatwa, and then they
    will give fatwa,
  • misguiding themselves and the people

12
  • It is a major sin (kabair)
  • Some sahaba considered this shirk because you
    are inventing your own religion.
  • People follow you blindly, instead of following
    the truth that Allah revealed
  • Shirk only came into existence in the first place
when people speak about Allah without knowledge
  • Example the Christians and paul

13
  • This is how new religions get invented
  • Whether it is an addition to the religion
  • Or making your own interpretation for quran
  • Twisting verses of Quran and pick and choose to
    support your opinion

14
  • MISTAKE 3
  • Adhering to a certain ruling /opinion, even if
there is a CLEAR EVIDENCE from Quran or authentic
    hadeeth AGAINST this ruling
  • Example
  • You tell someone its haram to do something,
based on a hadeeth or Quran.
  • They respond this scholar said its halal, so I
dont care what the other scholars say, they are
    extremists.
  • Who are you getting your deen from? Allah and his
    prophet, or this scholar?
  • Arrogance is rejecting the truth and looking
    down at people

15
  • When we look at the opinion of the scholar
  • Must see his evidence from Quran and sunnah
  • Be aware of selecting an opinion just because you
    like it.
  • Or following blindly because other people are
    doing it
  • when those who have been followed
disassociate themselves from those who followed
them, and they all see the punishment, and
cut off from them are the ties of relationship
    - Quran 1166

16
  • Differing opinions amongst scholars
  • lack of clear evidence
  • They perform ijtihad
  • came up with rulings and conclusions based on
evidence they had at that time

17
  • The imams admitted they might commit errors, and
that in origin, we should follow Allah and the
    prophet peace be upon him.
  • Imam Shafii said If I said something against a
hadith of the prophet, smite my opinion against
the wall and practice the Hadith of the prophet.
  • Imam Abu Hanifa said it is haram to follow my
ruling unless you know my evidence (from quran
    and hadith).
  • Imam Malik said we can take the words of
everyone or reject them, except the words of the
owner of this grave (meaning prophet Muhammad
    peace be upon him).

18
  • MISTAKE 4 HIJAB IS JUST A HEAD-COVERING
  • Its great that so many sisters wear it now
    mashaaAllah
  • We must remember why we are doing it (for Allahs
    sake)
  • To elevate women from the level of lust object
and mistress, to a respectable honored human
    being
  • We must refer to the Arabic Quran
  • translation of Quran is not the Quran itself
  • could lose the original meaning

Before Hijab
After Hijab
19
  • And tell the believing women to reduce some of
their vision and guard their private parts and
not expose their adornment except that which
necessarily appears thereof and to throw a
portion of their Khimar over their jaib (chests)
and not expose their adornment except to And
let them not stamp their feet to make known what
they conceal of their adornment Quran Surah
    Al-Noor31
  • O Prophet! Say to your wives and daughters and
the women of the believers, that they should cast
upon themselves their Jilbab. That is closer for
them to be known as such and not be
    molested/harassed Quran Surah al-Ahzab59)

20
  • So, what is hijab?
  • It is both
  • a moral code
  • a dress code (we will cover this)

21
(No Transcript)
22
  • There are varying opinions amongst scholars on
    interpretation of these words
  • We respect both parties opinions
  • The Muslim scholars
  • Disagreed on (covering face and hands)
  • Agreed on (covering whole body)
  • avoid the controversial issues in hijab (such as
    niqab)
  • looked on the agreed upon issues amongst scholars

23
  • The story of Naila bint Al-Farafisa
  • People were about the entere othman bin Affans
    house to kill him
  • To protect him, she started showing her hair, for
hope they will refrain from entering the house of
shame of looking at her hair
  • (men back then lowered their gaze)
  • Othman told her
  • Put back your khimar, for if I was to be cut into
many pieces, is better than committing the haram
    of showing your hair
  • The men entered and attacked him
  • She tried to protect him and two of her fingers
    were amputated with the sword
  • 1) Khimaar must cover ALL the hair

24
  • 2) Covers the jaib (chest)
  • Does NOT describe the shape of the chest

25
  • The story of Asma bint Abu Bakr,
  • her Son ibn al-zubair bought her a gift from iraq
  • She was blind, so when she touched the dress
  • she said
  • - uff, its(thin / light)
  • Her son said
  • It is not transparent
  • She replied
  • If it is not transparent then it describes the
    body

26
  • 3) NOT thin or transparent
  • 4) Does NOT describe the shape of the body

27
  • Hadith
  • There will be, at the end of my ummah, women who
    are
  • clothed yet naked
  • walking with an enticing gait, inciting men
  • their heads looking like the humps of camels,
    leaning to one side
  • Curse them, for they are cursed from the mercy
    of Allah
  • in another hadeeth
  • They will not enter paradise and even smell its
fragrance, even though its fragrance can be
detected from such and such a distance. (Sahih
    Muslim, no. 2218)

28
  • Hadith
  • Allah will not look at the person who drags his
garment (behind him) out of conceit.'
  • um Salama replied
  • So what will the women do with the tails of their
    garments?
  • He replied
  • They increase a shibr to the length
  • Um Salama said
  • But our feel will be uncovered
  • He replied
  • They must increase a thiraa, and not more than
    that

5) Covers the feet
29
  • 6) must NOT display fame, pride, arrogance and
    extravagance
  • And do not be extravagant, for Allah loves not
    the extravagant. (Surah al-Anam, V 141)

30
  • 7) Must NOT imitate the clothes of the opposite
    sex
  • The prophet Cursed those men who imitate women
and those women who imitate men. (Sahih
    al-Bukhari, 7/205)
  • 8) Must NOT imitate the clothes of non-believers
  • Whosoever imitates a nation is amongst them.
    (Sunan Abu Dawud, no. 4031)

31
  • 9) NOT perfumed, but clean, nice and elegant
  • Hadith
  • "The teeb for men is that whose odour is
apparent but whose color is hidden
  • and the teeb for women is that whose color is
apparent but whose odor is hidden.
  • 'If a woman uses perfume and passes the people so
that they may get its odour, she is so-and-so.
    (meaning severe remarks).

  • MISTAKE 5 CHANGING ALLAHS CREATION
  • Abd-Allaah said Allaah has cursed the women
  • who does tattoos
  • who plucks her eyebrows
  • who files her teeth
  • Who puts hair extensions
  • and those who did any of these things to them
  • The ones who change the creation of Allah
  • Superficial
  • Changes Allahs creation
  • Forehead appears large
  • Natural
  • Innocent
  • Suites the face best
  • Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
  • in our mind
  • Changes by fashion

34
  • In the Quran, Satan says
  • Verily, I will mislead them, and surely, I will
arouse in them false desires and indeed I
will order them to change the nature created by
    Allaah
  • al-Nisa 4117-119

35
  • Last but not least
  • We are not perfect. We all make sins
  • I know a lot are taking this great step into
wearing the headscarf, and are slowly trying to
    become familiar with it
  • But we should all have the intention )???) to
    improve ourselves gradually
  • We are doing it for the sake of Allah
  • Because our main purpose of creation is to
    worship Allah
  • By obeying his command and refraining from what
    he forbade
  • And not commit the mistake of making fun of
people who wear more modest types of hijab by
    calling them
  • Extreme
  • Old-fashioned
  • not modern
