Purpose Extending the application of fuzzy
learning algorithms into the hydraulic parallel
link manipulator for compensation of the
hydraulic actuators forces with its dominant
friction forces. The final goal is to achieve
complete tunnel construction under force/motion
control algorithm with the proposed fuzzy
compensation method.

Manipulation
Manipulator-based MD scanning
- Scanning conditions
- Scanned area is 40x50 cm2.
- Measurements are acquired every 2.0 cm on the
scanning path. - Measurements are acquired by every sensor
separately. - The position of manipulator tip is referred to
its base frame.

Decision Making
Feature-In Decision-out fuzzy fusion of MD and GPR
- The rules of a fuzzy rule base are to be
extracted through fuzzy rules learning algorithm.
14What Makes Research Displeasing?
- For new researchers Organizing research work
- How can I choose a research topic?
- Mapping Concepts
- Making a Plan
- You can hear or sometimes say some offensive
statements - This work is miserable
- The research work load is unbearable
- There are not enough hours in the day to do all
the things I need to do. - I am so tired and burnt out I can hardly get up
to go to Lab.
- Other problems
- Japanese language barrier, how to do?
- Japanese culture, how to deal?
15Advices related to offensive statements_1
- Take Advantage of New Opportunities
- Take a week-end leave
- Collaborate with colleagues on a research
project - Attend Conferences
- Become more active in a professional or national
organization - Get more involved in your community
16Advices related to offensive statements_2
- Take Better Care of Yourself
- Get regular exercise
- Get enough sleep
- Decrease the work you take home
- Enjoy your accomplishments
- Get away from it all
17Advices related to offensive statements_3
- Improve Your Work Environment
- Clean out your office
- Clean off your desk, (at the end of each day)
- Get small things off your to-do list ASAP
- Do the most unpleasant task on your to-do list
first - Do not procrastinate
- Concentrate on whatever you are doing- do not
multi-task - Empty the trash can and remove ancient files from
your computer - Look at e-mail only once or twice a day
- Take time to do it right
- Plan ahead. Look to see what is coming on your
calendar and in your research plan for the next
week or two and avoid the rush to get tasks done
at the same minute.
18Advices related to organizing research
work_1select a good topic
- What makes a good topic?
- A subject that interests you
- A subject that is not too general
- A subject that is not too narrow
- A subject within the scope you have been given
- What to do if you can not think of any thing for
your topic? - Browse in recent issues of a periodical devoted
to your area of interest - Begin from review papers.
19Advices related to organizing research
work_2map your concept
20Advices related to organizing research work_3
map your concepts in detail_a
21Advices related to organizing research work_4
map your concepts in detail_b
- Now that you have a pretty complete map of your
ideas, you can decide how much to include based
on the scope of your project. - Use your final map to generate a list of
questions to answer in your paper or areas where
you need more information. Here are some possible
questions for the example we've been using
- I'd like some anecdotes about experiences people
have had with pet therapy. - What are the uses of pets for therapy?
- What are some benefits of pet therapy?
- Are there certain groups that can benefit from
pet therapy? - What kind(s) of animals are best for pet therapy?
- What qualities does a pet need to be a good
choice for therapy?
22Advices related to organizing research work_5
plan your work
If you failed to plan then you planned for
failure !!
- To answer your questions, you should reply what
types of work you should do? - Is it experimental work? (what is the system,
sensors, actuators, build it?...etc) - Is it theoretical? What types of information you
need? (Books, serials, etc.) - Take the advantage of the big electronic library
www.nul.nagoya-u.ac.jp. - Take the advantage of the huge available
information through the world wide web. - Divide the big task into small tasks.
- Put your tasks in a form of a schedule.
23Advices related to organizing research work_5
develop your research work
Planning
Execution
Development
24Advices related to Japanese language
- Try to learn Japanese
- Take the advantage of the available Language
course - Speak with your colleagues
- Ask about the experience of learnt people
25Advices related to others cultures
- Try to accept others cultures from a diversity
point of view - O mankind! We created you from a single (pair)
of a male and a female, and made you into nations
and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that
ye may despise (each other). Verily the most
honored of you in the sight of Allah is (he who
is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full
knowledge and is well acquainted (with all
things), (Quran Translation, 4913) - All of you are belonging to Adam and he has been
created from ground. (Prophet Mohammad PBUH
sayings translation) - There is no honor for a white man over a black
man or an Arabian over a non Arabian except by
righteousness, (Prophet Mohammad PBUH sayings
translation)
26General tips for improving your research life_1
- Reading is fundamental
- Make a good background through reading keep
reading - When a paper makes contribution, you should
consider the paper in great detail you should
consider the following - What is the contribution of this research?
- How does the contribution relate to work
previously encountered? - What are the important references cited in this
paper by author? - Write a summary for each paper you believe is
pertinent to your research. In a research work,
summarizing is a common task.
27General tips for improving your research life_2
- Writing is fundamental
- You should begin writing up your results as early
as possible. While experimentation is important,
the efforts are wasted unless they are carefully
reported. - Write well. When in doubt, simple writing
succeeds. You may need to improve your writing
skills. Your readings might include successful
examples. - Keep a diary, in which write references, pose
questions, describe problems and their solutions.
Keep track of experiments and their results. It
is a valuable record of progress you make. - keep summary of results encountered in related
readings
28Summary
In this presentation, an introduction about the
speaker as well as some advices related to
organizing our research work are presented.
These advices may be known for many. However,
reminding and the application of these advices
may lead to more pleasant research life.
