7YOU and YOUR CLUB
- WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A LION Lions are men and
women who are dedicated to serving those in need
in their community or half-way around the world. - Members are expected to give freely of their time
and energy whenever possible. They are expected
to attend club meetings, be available for
committee assignments, be knowledgeable about the
aims and objectives of Lions and to support club
officers.
8MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES
- ACTIVE A member entitled to all rights and
privileges and subject to all obligations which
membership in a Lions club implies - MEMBER-AT-LARGE A member who has moved out of
the community and is unable to attend meetings
and wants to retain their Lions membership. This
member can not hold an office or vote at
conventions and must pay dues

- ASSOCIATE A member who holds his primary
membership in another club. May vote on club
matters but may not serve as a club delegate or
hold an office. - AFFILIATE An individual who is currently unable
to fully participate in the club, but wishes to
support the club. They may not hold office and
may not represent the club at district,
multiple-district or international conventions,
but may vote on club matters.

- HONORARY An honor bestowed by a club to an
individual who is not a member of the Lions club
to recognize outstanding community service. - PRIVILEDGED A member who has been a Lion for 15
years or more, because of illness, infirmities or
advanced age or other legitimate reason, must
relinquish their active status. They may vote
but not hold an office - LIFE-MEMBER A member who has maintained active
status for 20 or more years, or for 15 years and
is at least 70 years of age can be granted a Life
Membership. Life membership pay a one time
payment to the association in lieu of future
dues. They have all rights and privileges of
membership - Members cannot simultaneously hold membership
other than Honorary or Associate in more than
one club.

12DUES and ASSESSMENTS
- 25 International membership fee is payable on
the day the member joins with the completed
application - Members also pay annual dues which include club
dues, district dues and international dues.
These are billed by the club treasurer - It is important to stay current as the club is
billed by International and the District on the
1st of January and again on July 1st.
13CLUB BUDGETS
- Club maintains a separate account for
Administrative. - The Administrative budget is what finances the
club operations. Its income comes mainly from
club dues tail twisting.
- Club maintains a separate account for Activities.
- Funds raised from the public through club
projects may only be spent to satisfy a community
or public need.
14BOARD OF DIRECTORS
- The Board of Directors govern the Lions Club. The
Board consists of the President, the Immediate
Past President, three Vice Presidents, a
Secretary, Treasurer, Lion Tamer, Tail Twister,
Club Directors, and Membership Chair. - Officers are elected annually for a term of one
year from July 1 June 30. - Meetings of the board are usually held once a
month.
15CLUB OFFICERS
- President the leader of the club and board of
directors. Calls meetings and plans agenda. - Vice-President assumes authority for club in
absence of President. Each Vice-President
oversees the functioning of some of the club
committees.

- Secretary acts as liaison officer between the
club and both district and international.
Submits membership reports and maintains club
records. - Treasurer responsible for club funds. Keeps
administrative and activity fund separate. Bills
members for dues.

- Lion Tamer serves as custodian of club
property. - Tail Twister promotes harmony, good fellowship,
and enthusiasm through the judicious imposition
of fines on members.

- Membership Chair implements membership
recruitment, growth, retention, and orientation
programs. - Immediate Past President acts as official
greeter of members and their guests.
19CLUBS FORM A DISTRICT
- Composed of at least 35 clubs
- Must have at least 1250 members
- Sub-divided into Regions and Zones

- District Governor the chief administrative
officer for the district. - Vice District Governor chief assistant to the
District Governor and generally follows as
Governor for the next year - Cabinet Secretary/Treasurer act under the
supervision of the Governor - Region Chair appointed by the Governor to
assist in District administration - Zone Chair the direct link to the clubs, 1st
line of help to be called on by the clubs

- Holds four Cabinet Meetings each year
- Provides help to clubs through the District
MERLOW team and Zone Chairs - Sponsors District pin trading
- Sponsors Peace Poster Contest and other events
- Hosts youth exchange students

- Membership to help clubs to recruit and increase
membership - Extension to provide a framework for the
development of new clubs - Retention to help club in the retention of old
members - Leadership to provide leadership training
opportunities for the members of the district

- Orientation to assist clubs in the orientation
of new members and refreshers for older members - Womens Development to assist clubs in their
recruitment of women and to counsel in furthering
womens participation within the club and district

- More then one sub-district forms a

Multiple District - Arizona is a Multiple District, MD-21 and has 3
Sub Districts - Our District is 21-C.
- Council of Governors the 3 sitting Governors, a
Council Chairperson, 3 Vice- Governors, and 3
Immediate Past Governors form the Council - Only the 3 District Governors and the Council
Chairperson can vote. Four Council meetings are
held each year.

- Mid-Winter Leadership Forum an annual meeting
which provides leadership seminars for all
members - Officer training school for club officers,
Region and Zone Chairs - MD Convention the annual meeting at which
constitutional changes are voted upon as well as
voting for International Director candidates

serving the needy - Publishes monthly Canyon State Lion and annual MD
21 Directory - Owns and operates low cost housing in Tucson

- Sponsors previously owned eyeglass program

- Provides camping opportunities to special needs
individuals from age 7 through adult

- The International Headquarters with a staff of
under 300 full time employees is located in Oak
Brook, Illinois.
34INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS
- INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION held in late June or
early July and is the annual meeting of the
associations members. - THE LION MAGAZINE is the official magazine of
Lions Club International and is sent to every
member each month and is published in 21
languages. - LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL WEB-SITE is located at
www.lionsclubs.org and contains information,
downloadable materials, training courses, club
supplies, etc.
35LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION
- LCIF is the charitable arm of Lions Clubs
International. - SightFirst II program is a global effort to
respond to the worldwide needs for the prevention
of blindness. - Core 4 is an LCIF grant program that provides
up to 200,000 in the top four humanitarian
concerns of Lions preserving eyesight, combating
disabilities, promoting health and serving youth. - LCIF honors donors with awards and recognition.
The Melvin Jones Fellowship is the highest form.
