Introduction

• You have received a letter from your best
  friend, Winnie Foster. Since you are very close
  friends, you trust each other to keep secrets.
  She has written to you for advice about a very
  special and secret spring at the base of a tree.
  It has a magical power! Anyone who drinks from it
  will live forever! She also says she has fallen
  in love with a boy who drank from it. She wants
  your advice. Should she drink from the spring and
  live forever too?

Task

• Your friend really needs good advice. How you
  answer her could change her life forever! Your
  task is to study the pros and cons of living
  forever, then give her the best advice you can
  according to what you have learned.

Procedure

• 1.Watch the movie Tuck Everlasting.
• 2.Use the What If a Person Could Live Forever?
  note-taking sheet to list pros(reasons why she
  should drink the water) and cons(reasons why she
  should not), with examples from the movie.
• 3.Group work Share and discuss, add new ideas to
  your notes.
• 4.Write your letter to Winnie giving her your
  advice about drinking from the magic well. Be
  sure to include all parts of a friendly letter
  heading, greeting, body, closing, and signature.
• 5. Share your letter with the class.

• Sometimes in our lives we face hard decisions.
  It is nice to have friends to help us with our
  decisions. You have helped Winnie make her
  decision by considering the pros and cons before
  giving her the best advice you could offer as a
  friend. The decision will be hers to make.
