    flexible.
  • 3 distinct brains in one instinctive, emotional
    and reasoning.
  • Has 2 sides that work in harmony.
  • Has many different intelligence centres.
  • Operates on at least 4 different wavelengths.
  • Has a strong emotional component.
  • Is amazingly resilient and forgiving - makes new
    connections.

  • The Reptilian Brain- instinctive and automatic
    functions
  • Limbic System- emotions, sexuality, key role in
    memory.
  • Neo-cortex-thinking, seeing, hearing and creating.

Reptilian Brain
  • Likes to have its own territory- peg, draw, space
    etc
  • Needs physical comfort- warmth, absence of
    hunger.
  • Needs to belong and enjoys rituals which confirm
    identity-routines, clear procedures etc
  • Likes to feel safe physically and emotionally-
    reducing anxiety enhances learning.
  • Fight or flight and flocking behaviours.
  • Monitors motor functions.
  • Rote behaviours.

  • Runs emotions- the more emotion attached to an
    experience the more memorable it becomes.
  • Feeling that something is right is the commonest
    way of validating our learning.
  • Positive emotional states are crucial to
    learning.
  • Hub of long-term memory.
  • Filters information in and out.
  • Governs sense of value and identity- WIIfm, CITV
  • Values knowledge and understanding.

  • Divided into left and right hemispheres.
  • Connected via corpus callosum.
  • Discerns relationships and patterns of meaning.
  • Creates personal metaphors or models for
