Parametric modelling
  • bikeframe(sex, color, size)
  • wheel(radius, hub width, hub radius, num spokes,
    tire, ...)
  • axle(wheel1, wheel2, roll, yaw)
  • Sphere(radius, center)
  • Door(isopen)

Parametric modelling

Parametric modelling
17
Parametric modelling
What would be some good parameters?
18
Parametric modelling pros and cons
  • Higher level of control.
  • Multiple levels of control.
  • More intuitive space.
  • Must map parameters to geometry.
  • Extra level of processing.

19
Procedural Modelling
  • Similar to parametric. Often used in conjunction.
  • Geometry generated by a procedure, often with
    parameters.
  • For instance, generating the spokes of a wheel by
rotating in 10 degree increments or by rotating
    in 360/n degree increments

20
Constructive Solid Geometry
21
Constructive Solid Geometry
  • Primitives, i.e. simple objects defined by known
    functions
  • Operations, usually defined in terms of set
    operations.

22
Primitives
  • Sphere
  • Cone
  • Cylinder
  • Torus
  • Half-plane

23
Operations
  • Plus Union of two sets of points.
  • Minus Difference between two sets of points.
  • PaintMinus As for minus, but alters surface
    properties of remnant surface.
