Reasons for Success
  • We used to process fewer specimens but with
    support from netSPEAR , we are now processing
    more samples.
  • Support from our clinicians by requesting for
    more investigations.
  • Support from our administration office by way of
    encouragement and facilitating communication to
    and from netSPEAR.

What do we need to do better and what are our
plans?
  • Increase the number of laboratory staff involved
    in the program.
  • We wish to improve our recovery of isolates and
    therefore encourage the clinicians to investigate
    more patients.

CLINICIANS COMPLAINTS
  • No materials for LP when you need them.
  • The lab does not work at night/ weekends.
  • Results never (rarely) come back.
  • Results come too late.
  • The lab never grows anything.

SOLUTIONS
  • Familiarization with SOPs
  • All to know where to find LP materials
  • Bombard lab with CSF samples
  • Receive samples at all times of day and night
  • Inform ward by phone for positive CSF
  • Return negative results promptly

  • We do not receive enough samples from clinicians.
