Title: Psalms 23
1Psalms 23
2The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want.
- The Shepherd
- Jesus is our Shepherd
- (John 1011) I am the good shepherd the good
shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. - He died for us so that we could be His sheep
- (John 1014) I am the good shepherd, and know my
sheep, and am known of mine. - Our protector
- Our Authority
- Our Leader
- Our owner
3I will not want
- (Matt 633) But seek ye first the kingdom of
God, and his righteousness and all these things
shall be added unto you. - (Rom 832) He that spared not his own Son, but
delivered him up for us all, how shall he not
with him also freely give us all things? - (Phil 411) Not that I speak in respect of
want for I have learned, in whatsoever state I
am, therewith to be content. - It does not mean he had every thing he wanted but
that he was content with God giving him what he
needed.
4He maketh me to lie down in green pastures he
leadeth me beside the still waters.
- Some people say this is talking about death but
that isnt right. Really hes talking about
giving him a place of rest and water for
refreshment - The narrator is speaking of himself as a sheep
- (John 103) To him the porter openeth and the
sheep hear his voice and he calleth his own
sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
5He maketh me to lie down in green pastures he
leadeth me beside the still waters.
- We are his sheep if we obey his voice
- (John 1016) And other sheep I have, which are
not of this fold them also I must bring, and
they shall hear my voice and there shall be one
fold, and one shepherd. - (Matt 1128) Come unto me, all ye that labour
and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. - If we come to Him and obey his voice He will lead
us to rest
6He restoreth my soul he leadeth me in the paths
of righteousness for his name's sake.
- (Ps 197) The law of the Lord is perfect,
converting the soul the testimony of the Lord is
sure, making wise the simple. - God restores our soul through his word
- He teaches us how that we can be restored.
- (John 1717) Sanctify them through thy truth
thy word is truth.
7He restoreth my soul he leadeth me in the paths
of righteousness for his name's sake.
- (Rom 116-17) For I am not ashamed of the gospel
of Christ for it is the power of God unto
salvation to every one that believeth to the Jew
first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the
righteousness of God revealed from faith to
faith as it is written, The just shall live by
faith. - Through the Gospel of Christ we taught how that
we can become righteous - Therefore The Lord leads us in the path of
righteousness
8He restoreth my soul he leadeth me in the paths
of righteousness for his name's sake.
- He restores our soul through the gospel
- (Mark 1615-16) And he said unto them, Go ye
into all the world, and preach the gospel to
every creature. He that believeth and is baptized
shall be saved but he that believeth not shall
be damned. - those that believe the gospel are restored
9 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the
shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou
art with me thy rod and thy staff they comfort
me.
- (1 Cor 1555-57) O death, where is thy sting? O
grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death
is sin and the strength of sin is the law. But
thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ. - If you are His sheep you have no fear of death.
- Because our Shepherd has the keys death and the
grave
10Yea, though I walk through the valley of the
shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou
art with me thy rod and thy staff they comfort
me.
- (Rev 116-18) And he had in his right hand seven
stars and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged
sword and his countenance was as the sun shineth
in his strength. And when I saw him, I fell at
his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon
me, saying unto me, Fear not I am the first and
the last I am he that liveth, and was dead and,
behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen and have
the keys of hell and of death.
11Yea, though I walk through the valley of the
shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou
art with me thy rod and thy staff they comfort
me.
- (Matt 1028) And fear not them which kill the
body, but are not able to kill the soul but
rather fear him which is able to destroy both
soul and body in hell. - Do not fear persecution but rather God because he
can destroy both soul and spirit. - We have comfort in Christ when we are being
persecuted - (Matt 510-11) Blessed are they which are
persecuted for righteousness' sake for theirs is
the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men
shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall
say all manner of evil against you falsely, for
my sake.
12(Ps 235) Thou preparest a table before me in
the presence of mine enemies thou anointest my
head with oil my cup runneth over.
- Even in the midst of persecution and trials we
have great blessings - (Ps 405) Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful
works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts
which are to us-ward they cannot be reckoned up
in order unto thee if I would declare and speak
of them, they are more than can be numbered.
13(Ps 236) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow
me all the days of my life and I will dwell in
the house of the Lord for ever.
- (1 John 17) But if we walk in the light, as he
is in the light, we have fellowship one with
another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son
cleanseth us from all sin. - Walk is a continuing action we must continue in
the light - (Rev 210) Fear none of those things which thou
shalt suffer behold, the devil shall cast some
of you into prison, that ye may be tried and ye
shall have tribulation ten days be thou faithful
unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
14(Ps 236) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow
me all the days of my life and I will dwell in
the house of the Lord for ever.
- (1 Thess 416-17) For the Lord himself shall
descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice
of the archangel, and with the trump of God and
the dead in Christ shall rise first Then we
which are alive and remain shall be caught up
together with them in the clouds, to meet the
Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the
Lord.
15(Ps 236) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow
me all the days of my life and I will dwell in
the house of the Lord for ever.
- (Rev 223-5) And there shall be no more curse
but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in
it and his servants shall serve him And they
shall see his face and his name shall be in
their foreheads. And there shall be no night
there and they need no candle, neither light of
the sun for the Lord God giveth them light and
they shall reign for ever and ever.
