2What is Planning
Planning is about bringing together all the
pieces of our community
Planning is about understanding all the dynamics
of our community so that we can build on what we
know
Planning is knowing where we have come from so we
can understand where we are going
Planning never ends.
3Roles Responsibilities
I work with the community members to build
awareness, understanding and support for the
planning process
I gather information, organize it, and present it
to the community on a regular basis through
monthly submissions to the website, newsletter,
and workshops
I have deadlines that must be meet regularly with
INAC and APC (Atlantic Policy Congress)

I am a member of the Atlantic Community Planning
Committee representing all of the planners from
New Brunswick
I sit as one of the board of directors for
Bathurst Sustainability Community
I am required to design our community planning
panels and our community planning document
5Roles Responsibilities
I am required to attend training sessions to
further my abilities as a planner. I am going to
be learning things such as
- how to understand, develop, and implement
policies and procedures
- understanding of Aboriginal law, general law
application, human rights law, labour standards
and code of conduct
- Participate in the creation of the Atlantic
First Nations Management Framework currently
being developed by APC
- land management act / policies, Indian act
roles/ powers, environment law, treaties,
contract law, occupational/health and safety
regulations, by-law / zoning training,
facilitator training, anger management, manuals
from all departmental programs, and so on
6ACPCAtlantic Community Planning Committee
The Mandate of this committee is
- Oversee and advise on processes supporting
comprehensive community planning
- Work with governments, First Nations trainees
and other key players to enhance community and
institutional capacity
- Build awareness of community planning
- Coordinate Atlantic participation in national
community planning work
- Advise on training and capacity building
- Raise and allocate funds to support the work of
communities, the committee and other institutions
and activities which support its objectives in a
long term, sustainable manner
