What is Telematics?

• Telematics is the name given to the synergies
  between Telecommunications and Informatics.
• Telematic engineering has brought innew ways to
  communicate (Internet)and to organize economy
  and society(e-learning, e-commerce,
  e-government, etc.), turning into the main
  development engine of the so-called Information
  Era.
• The main challenges faced by Telematics
  Engineering are the creation of new, more
  efficient and secure network mechanisms, and the
  development of the new services that society
  increasingly demands.

The Departament
The DET was founded in June, 2001, and is made up
of 35 professors who give courses in the
Telecommunications School in the University of
Vigo, in all those subjects related to

• Computers architecture.
• Software engineering.
• Operating systems.
• Computer networks.
• Telematic applications andservices.

Research Groups (I)

• There are several, very active, research groups
  in the DET, working on the following topics
• Software engineering formal techniques,
  requirements engineering, protocols engineering.
• Real-time systems real-time telematic systems,
  design of embedded systems.
• Intelligent agents formal methods applied to
  the design of intelligent systems,
  characterization of intelligent systems, design
  of agent-based distributed systems.
• Interactive digital TV architecture and
  services.
• Secure networks authentication, chryptography.

  architectures, planning and optimization, design
  of broadband telematic systems.
• Educational services e-learning systems,
  technological support for open and distant
  education, standarization of educational
  technologies, virtual laboratories.

  e-commerce, metacomputing and grid computing.
• Wireless networks and mobile communications
  WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G, RFID, free bands...
