I. THIS PHRASE IS A DECLARATION OF MANS
CAPACITY TO CONVERSE WITH GOD
  • This is part of the image of God
  • It has been repeatedly witnessed throughout the
    Biblical history
  • This phrase (v. 4) in our psalm is the beginning
phrase of direct conversation with God look vv.
    6, 7, 8, 10

5
II. THIS PHRASE IS A DECLARATION OF MANS
CAPACITY TO ASSESS HIS OWN SITUATION
  • Analytical thinking is not only an academic
    requirement
  • The example of the prodigal son
  • Correct Conclusion Happy people are those who
have their land filled with the knowledge of
    God! (vv. 1-3)

6
III. THIS PHRASE IS A DECLARATION OF MANS
CAPACITY TO ASCRIBE TO GOD THE PLACE HE IS WORTHY
OF
  • The Bible as a whole contains personal prayers in
which the individuals made direct exclamations to
    God of who He is
  • Deuteronomy 324 O Lord GOD, You have begun to
show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong
hand for what god is there in heaven or on earth
who can do such works and mighty acts as Yours?
  • Psalm 453 Gird your sword upon your side, O
mighty one clothe yourself with splendor and
majesty. Psalm 8913 You have a strong arm
Your hand is mighty, Your right hand is exalted.
  • Jeremiah 3218 You show love to thousands but
bring the punishment for the fathers' sins into
the laps of their children after them. O great
and powerful God, whose name is the LORD
    Almighty.
  • Habakkuk 112 Are You not from everlasting, O
LORD, my God, my Holy One? We will not die. You,
O LORD, have appointed them to judge And You, O
Rock, have established them to correct.

7
Our phrase contains something quite unique God
is exalted as the author considered the losses
You are resplendent, more majestic than the
mountains of prey.
  • Definition of the word prey
  • The condition of the land
  • I count all things to be loss in view of the
surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord,
for whom I have suffered the loss of all things,
and count them but rubbish so that I may gain
    Christ. Philippians 38

CONCLUSION
  • There is a saying that goes like this, Until you
are sacrificial, you are artificial. God's best
is known by surrender, not struggle. Christ is
not valued at all unless he is valued above all.
  • You must keep in mind not what you are, but whose
    you are.
