The Forum was set up in 1987 thanks to the
initiative of some Catholic Action
representatives from different countries who
met in Rome during the Bishops Synod on the
Vocation and mission of the Laity in the Church
and in the world

When IFCA was set up

• Rome, November 1991
• Constitutive Assembly of the International Forum
  of Associations and Federations of Movements of
  Catholic Action

IFCA recognition

• June 29th 1994 the Pontifical Council for the
  Laity recognized IFCA as an international
  organism and approved its Normative Document ad
  experimentum
• January 3rd 2000 final recognition

IFCA participation in CIOs

• December 2001
• The Conference of the Catholic International
  Organizations - CICO - recognized IFCA as a ICO

IFCA identity

• IFCA is made up of
• lay associations on both national and diocesan
  level which correspond to the four notes - taken
  together - set out in AA n. 20 and in ChL n. 31,
  even if they take different names

• IFCA is an organism of service which promotes
  initiatives in order to support and develop the
  specific mission that Catholic Action has to
  carry on in the different historical, cultural
  and ecclesial contexts

IFCA goals

• To be a place of meeting and solidarity among
  Catholic Action of different countries, regions
  and continents
• to analyse the worldwide dimension of the
  problems that contemporary society poses to the
  Church and to Catholic Action
• to animate and promote the new evangelization
  with respect for the structural and pastoral
  realities of each Catholic Action
