2What a Friend We Have in Jesus
3First Verse
What a Friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and
griefs to bear What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer. O what peace we
often forfeit, O what needles pain we bear, All
because we do not carry Everything to God in
prayer.
4What a Friend we have in Jesus
- (John 1513) Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends. - No act could show love better!
- (John 1011) I am the good shepherd the good
shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. - Jesus Showed his Love by him Dying!
5All our sins and griefs to bear
- Jesus love for us
- (Isa 534-5) Surely he hath borne our griefs,
and carried our sorrows yet we did esteem him
stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he
was wounded for our transgressions, he was
bruised for our iniquities the chastisement of
our peace was upon him and with his stripes we
are healed.
6All our sins and griefs to bear
- (Gal 313-14) Christ hath redeemed us from the
curse of the law, being made a curse for us for
it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth
on a tree That the blessing of Abraham might
come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ that
we might receive the promise of the Spirit
through faith.
7What a privilege to carry everything to God in
Prayer
- (Phil 46-7) Be careful for nothing but in
every thing by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto
God. And the peace of God, which passeth all
understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds
through Christ Jesus. - We have the privilege to carry everything to God
in Prayer
8What a privilege to carry everything to God in
Prayer
- (Eph 618) Praying always with all prayer and
supplication in the Spirit. - Need to always turn to God first in all things
- (1 Peter 56-7) Humble yourselves therefore
under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt
you in due time Casting all your care upon him
for he careth for you.
9O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless
pain we bear,
- (Prov 1529) The LORD is far from the wicked
but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. - (1 Peter 312) For the eyes of the Lord are over
the righteous, and his ears are open unto their
prayers but the face of the Lord is against them
that do evil. - We have the privilege and ability to go to God,
but many forfeit this privilege!
10All because we do not carry everything to God in
prayer.
- (James 42) yet ye have not, because ye ask not
- If we dont ask well not receive
- Must go to God, hes our Strength!
- (Ps 181-2) I will love thee, O LORD, my
strength. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress,
and my deliverer my God, my strength, in whom I
will trust my buckler, and the horn of my
salvation, and my high tower.
11Second Verse
Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble
anywhere? We should never be discouraged, Take it
to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so
faithful, Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus
knows our every weakness Take it to the Lord in
prayer.
12Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble
anywhere?
- We will always have trials and temptations
- (James 12-4) My brethren, count it all joy when
ye fall into divers temptations Knowing this,
that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye
may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. - (James 114) But every man is tempted, when he
is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
13We should never be discouraged, Take it to the
Lord in prayer.
- (1 Cor 1013) There hath no temptation taken you
but such as is common to man but God is
faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted
above that ye are able but will with the
temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may
be able to bear it. - (1 Peter 414) If ye be reproached for the name
of Christ, happy are ye for the spirit of glory
and of God resteth upon you on their part he is
evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
14Can we find a friend so faithful, Who will all
our sorrows share?
- (Heb 218) For in that he himself hath suffered
being tempted, he is able to succour them that
are tempted. - He can share in our sorrows
15Jesus knows our every weakness Take it to the
Lord in Prayer
- (Heb 415-16) For we have not an high priest
which cannot be touched with the feeling of our
infirmities but was in all points tempted like
as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore
come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may
obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of
need.
16Third Verse
Are we weak and heavyladen, Cumbered with a load
of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge, Take
it to the Lord in prayer. Do thy friends despise,
forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer In
His arms Hell take and shield thee, Thou wilt
find a solace there.
17Are we weak and heavyladen, Cumbered with a load
of care?
- (Matt 1128-30) Come unto me, all ye that labour
and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me for I am
meek and lowly in heart and ye shall find rest
unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my
burden is light.
18Precious Savior, still our refuge, Take it to the
Lord in Prayer
- (1 Peter 26-7) Wherefore also it is contained
in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief
corner stone, elect, precious and he that
believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto
you therefore which believe he is precious - (Ps 461-2) God is our refuge and strength, a
very present help in trouble. Therefore will not
we fear, though the earth be removed, and though
the mountains be carried into the midst of the
sea
19Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to
the Lord in prayer
- (James 516) Confess your faults one to another,
and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man
availeth much. - If we have a falling out we need to take it to
the God.
20In His arms Hell take and shield thee,
- (Ps 3320) Our soul waiteth for the LORD he is
our help and our shield. - (Ps 33) But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me
my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
21Thou wilt find a solace there.
- Solace - alleviation of grief or anxiety
- (2 Cor 13-4) the Father of mercies, and the
God of all comfort Who comforteth us in all our
tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them
which are in any trouble, by the comfort
wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
