4Context
- A new Energistics Special Interest Group is being
formed to participate in the development and
support of standards for the transfer of
reservoir (gg and simulation) models. Formal
launch Jan. 1, 09 - This arises directly from the RESCUE work
- Actively operating for more than 10 years
- Produced class libraries for model exchange
- Supported by energy companies and
software/service companies - It has been agreed to provide for an
implementation of such capabilities using XML
(and Web Services) to be a parallel effort to
those of WITSML and PRODML.

6Horizon UML model
7Horizons with ContourLines (JFR)
General note All features should (in the
future?) have colors/colours associated with them
so that transferring between applications is
consistent
Horizon with null nodes gt zigzag edge
representation, which may have lost information.
So, pass this information along, even if past a
trim line. In addition, projecting horizons past
the trim line to know the un-eroded restored
horizon is very useful for sub-layering,
geostats, etc.
3DContourLine is really TrimLine
8RESQML Headlines
- Scope
- Re-development of RESCUE class library as Web
Services and XML Data Exchange Standards - Focus Earth models and reservoir models
- Includes support for Geological and Geophysical
models in coordination with respective SIGs - Reservoir Characterization with XML
- Earth models, reservoir models
- Data for wells, faults, horizons, stratigraphy,
etc. - CRS/projection, units, points, lines, grids
(points, lines, pillars, etc.)

11RESQML Headlines
- Status and Plans
- Formal launch, January 1, 2009
- Operating procedures same as other SIGs
- Preliminary management and technical meetings
- May, July, September, December
- Legacy RESCUE support to continue for 18 months
- Compatibility with other Energistics Standards
- Coordinate/interface with relevant external
technologies/standards - OGP EPSG, OGC GML, GeoSciML, etc.
- Market for greater awareness and participation
12Principle
- Separate concept of EarthModelDocument (not grid
based) and ReservoirModelDocument (grid based) - Any ReservoirModelDocument object
references/contains a EarthModelDocument object

17Timeline
Needs Updating Please
- December 8-9 Next RESQML working session
(Houston) - Go into XML details
- February 9-13 (Denver)
- Library coding session
- Operating Companies or vendors provide
scenarios, skeleton XML files, use cases for
testing - dummy cases for back of envelope testing
- May 4-7 (Calgary)
- Exchanging models
- August/September (Oxford, France)
- Aligned with RESCUE ILAB
18Conclusions
- The longstanding need for (loose) integration and
transfer between earth and reservoir models for
several EP business purposes is being addressed. - The appropriate technical resources are being
re-used. Additional expertise, funding, and
support will be sought. - Potential participants should contact
