- In 1981 4 major groups working within the Port of
Hamburg (Forwarder, Liner Agent, Tally and Quay
Operator) agreed upon the following - Efficient organization of transportion needs
early information - information exchange using EDI
- avoids double typing,
- avoids errors due to double typing
- saves time and
- saves money
- Flow of information within the Harbour was too
slow and too expensive

- Setup of a committee
