Title: HKN Scheduling Workshop

1
HKN Scheduling Workshop
  • Agenda
  • EE/CPE Requirements PowerPoint
  • Class Difficulty Ratings
  • Co-op Schedule Outline
  • Open Discussion

2
EE/CpE Requirements
  • Don Venable
  • October 25, 2004
  • Revised October 11, 2005

3
Two Majors in One
  • Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering
are part of the same major, with class
differences, depending on the track chosen

4
Classes Both Tracks Need
5
What Both Groups Need
  • General Science
  • Physics
  • PHYS251
  • PHYS252
  • Chemistry
  • CHEM151

6
What Both Groups Need
  • I dont know why
  • CE220 - Statics

7
What Both Groups Need
  • Math Classes
  • MATH263 Series Calculus
  • MATH340 Differential Equations
  • MATH440 Vector Analysis
  • Prerequisite for EE321 (E-mag)

8
What Both Groups Need
  • EE Classes
  • EE100 Series
  • EE21x Series ( 210 212)
  • EE221 Lab Instrumentation
  • EE321 Electromagnitronics
  • EE371 Prob. and Stats. For EEs
  • EE395 Design Experiment Series
  • EE495 - Senior Design
  • 3 Senior Electives

9
What Both Groups Need
  • Senior Year ( When you feel Old )
  • 3 Excellent Senior Electives
  • You can choose a specialization if you are EE,
CpE is your specialization if you are CpE
  • EE495 Senior Design
  • Yearlong design project, mega-sweet

10
  • Just EEs

11
EE Classes Only
  • Computer Science Classes
  • CS240A CS240B Intro to C
  • Required Programming Electives
  • -OR-
  • CS210 CS240A intro to C and intro to C

12
EE Classes Only
  • EE Classes
  • EE333-EE334 Intermediate EE
  • ( Analog Signals-Systems / Semiconductors)

13
  • Computer
  • Engineers

Computer
14
  • Are you ready?
  • (This might hurt)

15
Computer Engineering Classes
  • Computer Science Classes
  • Required
  • CS240 Series ( A-C )
  • CS300 Discrete Mathematics (Fun)
  • Required Electives
  • CS361 Data Structures

16
Computer Engineering Classes
  • EE Classes
  • Required
  • EE351 EE352
  • Required Electives
  • EE224 Intro Digital Circuits
  • EE461 Digital Design
  • In The Future
  • EE22? Combinational Circuits
  • EE22? Sequential Circuits

17
  • Minors

18
Math Minor
  • Benefits
  • Only need two more classes (410 and another 400
    level class)
  • Help eliminate some general science requirements
  • Doesnt EE/Cpe w/ Math Minor just sound Cooler?

19
Business Minor
  • Benefits
  • Attracts the eye of recruiters after college
    (looks better than math minors)
  • Only? Requires 7 extra classes.
  • If youre going to co-op, it fits in fairly well.
  • Learn how easy business majors have it.

20
  • Timing Suggestions

21
Timing
  • Math 440
  • Possibly the most important math after calculus
  • Take as soon as possible
  • Also one of the harder math classes, so give
    yourself time
  • Math 263D is a Pre-requisite for Math 440.
  • For EEs, Math 440 is a pre-req for EE321 which
    is a pre-req for EE395C

22
Timing
  • Math 340
  • Differential Equations If you can take it early,
go ahead, but not a huge deal
  • Im old and I still havent had it
  • Not a prerequisite for anything, but has use in
    EE21x Series, and EE333-334, EE395C, EE351

23
Timing
  • Statics CE220
  • Statics is highly dependent on vector math, and
knowing it well will make the class seem very
    simple
  • Dont Listen to the Hype EE majors are much
    smarter than those CE idiots.
  • Although, if youre EE, make sure you get above a
    C

24
Advisors
  • They arent as bad as you think.
  • Go see them after you already have an idea of
    what you want to take.
  • Talking to your advisor and getting to know them
early will help your relationship with them for
    years to come.
  • Dr. Ostermann told me I had to say this.
  • If youre Advisor doesnt have all the answers,
go talk to Dr. Vassiliadas (Dr. V told me to say
    this)

25
Conclusion
  • Have fun, take it easy, dont let classes get to
    you.
  • Take advantage of SI sessions, Mentoring, your
    teachers, and your peers. ?
