  • - ARO determines research interest areas of Army
    laboratories and centers,
  • - Faculty applicants submit applications labs
    centers make selections,
  • - ARO completes SFREP awards in April
  • - Work is performed at the designated Army
    laboratory/center.

Accomplishments
  • Approximately 50 HBCU/MI research projects are
    currently supported, some of which have
    matching funds from HBCU/MI Core.
  • FY 01 Core program supported 5 new
    investigators
  • ARO joined with ARL-HRED to support summer
    science camp for Mathematics, Engineering,
    Science Achievement (MESA) with Morgan State
    University and Johns Hopkins (APL)
  • Increasing numbers of collaborative projects
    within Core. This may be a result of DoD
    initiatives encouraging partnering.

Hydrogen Profiling The Metals and Ceramics
Branch of WMRD has had active interaction and
collaboration with Dr. Ila AAMU since the early
1990s this work is important to ...stress
corrosion studies, material fatigue properties,
and gun tube wear and erosion. This
ARO-Funded Collaboration has provided ARL a
unique instrumentation capability that is being
applied to several Army research programs. WMRD
personnel anticipate continuing collaborations
with AAMU faculty and students in a number of
