Introduction
  • 3107 cm-1 absorption peak in synthetic diamonds
    grown by the high pressure-
  • high temperature (HPHT) method was first
    observed.
  • The 3107 cm-1 IR absorption peak is attributed
    to a C-H stretch vibration.

Experimental
Annealed at 2650?, 9GPa
60 ? x 60 ? of samples
IR spectra observed using Nicolet Magna-IR 750
FTIR spectrometer

Results Discussion
3107 cm-1
Comparison of the IR spectra in range of
3130-3180 cm-1 before (dotted line) and after
annealing at 2650? for 5h (solid line), sowing
the introduction of the 3107 cm-1 peak
The correlation of the intensity of the 3107 cm-1
line and the total nitrogen concentration at
various location of specimen V17 (correlation
coefficient Equals 0.96)

Conclusion
  • The 3107 cm-1 peak was not observed in locations
    where the nitrogen
  • concentration was low (less than about 100ppm)
  • A very small 3107 cm-1 peak, having an
    absorption coefficient of 0.02 cm-1,
  • was found in a natural type IIa diamond
  • Correlation is found between the total nitrogen
    content and the strength of the
  • peak in a particular sample
