  • Pretend youre preparing to run in a big race in
    a few months.
  • What would you do to get your body in shape?

Youth Groups/Parent Groups
  • Discuss all the ways you would maintain your
    vehicle to keep it running in top condition
  • Record your answers on flip chart paper
  • Youth share, then parents
  • The longer we drive, the more we learn about
    properly maintaining our vehicles

Using the Vehicle Owners Manual
  • Youth work with parents
  • Write down at least five common maintenance
    tasks
  • Write down at least five tasks that you feel are
    specific to that vehicle
  • Share results

Youth Work with Parents
  • Each teens gets one set of the Vehicle Safety
    Flash Cards (labeled 1)
  • Give parents the remaining sets
  • Youth lay their sets face down
  • Parent, hand a description card to your teen
    one-at-a-time and teens attempt to uncover the
    correct match
  • Think of the game Memory

  • Before altering a vehicle, do your homework!
  • Know the laws
  • What alterations might be unsafe?
  • What alterations might make a vehicle warranty
    void?

  • Be creative!
  • Parents and youth work together on the project.
  • Record on a note card the information to share
    with the other Drive Rite participants.

Parent Lessons
  • The parent lessons provide opportunity for
    teaching and learning between sessions
  • We recommend that you try to complete the
    remaining lessons prior to the last Drive Rite
    session
  • However, wed rather you err on the side of
    safety than try to cram all the lessons in before
    next month
