JFCOM Training Audiences
  • USJFCOM JWFC conducts training for combatant
commanders, joint task forces, and functional
    component battle staffs.

The Joint National Training Capability will
provide training to the full complement of
defense audiences. and will evolve to
encompass a larger training audience, including
coalition partners and Federal, state, local, and
nongovernmental agencies.
(DoD Training Transformation Implementation Plan)
4
JMRM Federation Objectives
  • Support Joint Force training
  • Support Multi-level training
  • JTLS Model Description
  • JCATS Model Description
  • Provide a deployable exercise support capability
  • Provide an inexpensive exercise support
    capability
  • Support classified and unclassified exercises
  • Leverage existing complementary functionality
  • Provide federation configuration control to users

MULTI-RESOLUTION MODELING
UNCLASSIFIED
Resolution is the degree of detail used to
represent aspects of the real world by a model
or simulation Multi-Resolution Modeling (MRM)
allows representation at more than one level of
detail.
Gross, D., et al, Report from the Fidelity
Implementation Study Group, Proceedings of the
Spring 1999 Simulation Interoperability Workshop,
Orlando, FL, March 14-19, 1999.

JTLS Model Description
  • The Joint Theater Level Simulation (JTLS) is an
    interactive, computer assisted simulation that
models multi-sided, air, ground, naval and
Special Operations Force (SOF) combat with
    logistical and intelligence support
  • JTLS was designed as a tool for use in the
development and analysis of joint and combined
    (coalition) operation plans
  • Primarily used today as a training support and
    mission rehearsal simulation
  • FOCUS Operational Level of War (JTF Level)

JCATS Model Description
  • Extended Battlefield View
  • Variable scale, multi-resolution terrain (4000KM
    by 4000KM)
  • Enhanced urban environment
  • Individual building construction (Floor
    plans, windows, doors, etc.)
  • Detailed Battle Picture
  • Simultaneous Individual and Aggregate engagements
  • Aggregate interaction tracked at the entity level
  • Units reallocated dynamically
  • Entity Fidelity
  • Individual weapons, platforms, sensors and
    munitions
  • Human health, training and fatigue factors
  • Individual logistics

JCATS Version 7.1 Interface

JTLS-JCATS High Level Design
  • The federation leverages each simulations
    strengths
  • JTLS simulates theater operations and represents
    aggregate-level objects
  • JCATS simulates tactical operations and
    represents entity-level objects
  • Ownership may be shared to leverage functionality
  • Control of simulation objects may be handed off
as the objects move from one simulation to the
    other
  • Each simulation sends state changes for objects
it controls and receives state changes of objects
    controlled by the other simulation
  • JTLS and JCATS objects may interact with one
    another when appropriate (e.g. combat
    engagements)
  • Coherent and consistent presentation to
training audience at different levels of
    resolution

11
Key Capabilities Provided
Ownership Transfer
12
Sample Scenario Use Case
  • JTLS Representation
  • Covers theater area of operations
  • Includes all relevant actors
  • Requires time/distance coordination at theater
    level
  • JCATS Representation
  • multiple interest areas
  • polygonal
  • may be geographically separate
