SUMMARY

• Hyrdoseeded mosses and other colonizing species
  can form good ground cover within a few months
  on very difficult sites to revegetate in
  medium-to high- rainfall environments, especially
  shady aspects
• Surface soil/rock stability is a very significant
  factor for moss/plant colonization
• Mosses assist the establishment of vascular
  native plants

• Competition from exotic grasses/weeds and grazing
  by animals (hares, rabbits) can be problems with
  hydroseeding slower-growing native plants
• Seed viability/dormancy and availability of
  provenance seed for seral species recommended for
  revegetation may be limiting factors

• Hydroseeding with mosses and colonizing species
  is now a proven method of revegetating roadbanks
  and other sites where other methods are
  impractical
• Hydroseeding with seral native woody plants has
  been shown to be feasible
• We are now working on techniques for hydroseeding
  ferns.
