- Parent Council collaborations
2Stromness Academy Parent Council
- Was set up in 2007 and has 12 parents and other
co-opted members. - It meets every six weeks or so. Sub-groups meet
at other times, too.
3In 2007-8,
- We began the process of identifying important
issues for parents - Some of these carried forward from School Board
times - Lockers
- Canteen queues
- Buses
4Parents also became involved in new
processes
- Interviewing all new staff
- Attending Parents Evenings
- Electing new S1 parents
- Contributing to School Newsletters
5We established two sub-groups
- which meet beyond the business meetings of Parent
Council - STEM
- Schools of Ambition

- This arose from two parents interest in using
contacts in the local community to enhance
opportunities for pupils

engagement and understanding of the Schools of
Ambition Project to parents. - Parents identified certain issues from the wider
approach taken by Schools of Ambition
