Research Question Does Lake Munson have
higher levels of phosphate than other natural
lakes in Florida?

• Phosphate is a main compound in plant fertilizers
  and an important limiting factor for aquatic
  plant life in lakes. And a lot of those same
  fertilizers get washed into the storm drains all
  around Tallahassee.
• The link between this and lake Munson is that
  half of Tallahassees storm water drains into
  lake Munson throughout the year, thus possibly
  putting more phosphate into the lake than is
  natural supposed to be there.

• Hypothesis
• We predicted that Lake Munson would have higher
  levels of phosphate than other natural lakes in
  Florida.

All five of us collected a sample of the water at
the points on the map.

Locations we sampled

We collected 5 samples of water and performed 3
tests for each sample. Then we calculated the
average phosphate level of the lake. Our results
were as follows.

• Total Average Phosphate in Lake Munson
• was 0.69 ppm (Parts Per Million)
• We also found that natural lake level phosphates
  should not exceed 0.25 ppm

Conclusion We found 3 times more phosphorus in
Lake Munson than is supposed to be present in
natural lakes of Florida. We believe this is
because Lake Munson receives most of its water
from urban storm runoff.
