9Love of the Gospel When an occasion comes, if
we love the Gospel you can always fit into the
role youre called upon to play.
10Minerva Teichert, 1943-1950
When I spend years of careful study, earnest
efforts, and many dollars, it is proof of what
I believe I can and must do.

19The Restoration
- When the light rested upon me I saw two
Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all
description, standing above me in the air. One
of them spake unto me, calling me by name and
said, pointing to the otherThis is My Beloved
Son. Hear Him! - (Joseph Smith History 117)

24There are only two reasons for paintings in
the first place -- either a thing must be very
beautiful, or, it must be an important story.
25I painted usually after they were tucked into
bed at night. I must paint. Its a disease.

35Toschi-TiboA Centennial Pageant by Minerva
Teichert
- In 1947, Teichert wrote a never-performed
version of a pageant to celebrate the centennial
of the pioneers arrival in Utah. She entitled
it Toschi-Tibo, a phrase she said meant white
man. Displayed in this case are small standing
figures she made of the various pageant
groupings. Similar figures served as tools of
many pageant masters.

52Manti Temple Mural
-
- In 1947 Teichert painted murals, which she called
a pageantry of nations, for the World Room in
the Mormon temple in Manti, Utah. Her scheme
differs from that of other world rooms. Most
portray desert scenes and wild animals to
represent the world to which Adam and Eve were
banished after their fall from paradise. Instead,
Teichert painted a procession of richly clad
people ignoring the pleas of beggars. A wealth of
uncaring people was her idea of the lone and
dreary world.

63Wherefore, he will bring them again out of
captivity and they shall be gathered together to
the lands of their inheritance . . . Behold, I
will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set
up my standard to the people and they shall
bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters
shall be carried upon their shoulders. I will
soften the hearts of the Gentiles, that they
shall be like unto a father to them wherefore,
the Gentiles shall be blessed and numbered among
the house of Israel. 1 Nephi 2212 2 Nephi

64- Thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will lift up
mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard
to the people and they shall bring thy sons in
their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried
upon their shoulders. - And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their
queens thy nursing mothers they shall bow down
to thee with their face toward the earth, and
lick up the dust of thy feet and thou shalt know
that I am the Lord for they shall not be ashamed
that wait for me. Isaiah 492223

68A Passion for The Book of Mormon
When asked why she painted scenes from the Book
of Mormon, she replied Because I believe in it.
69Book of Mormon Frieze
-
- In the early 1950s, Teichert painted a series of
forty-two murals representing Book of Mormon
themes. Of her murals she said, They do not
need frames. I put them on the walls with a half
inch wood binding. She planned to hang them
along in story form so that the narrative of
the Book of Mormon could be easily and quickly
understood. -
- Hoping to capture her intent, we have hung twelve
of her murals representing Book of Mormon
passages in chronological order as a frieze, or
decorative horizontal band, around the next
gallery. The frieze itself can be understood as a
pageant. In this succession of murals, the parts
of the pageantprocessions, tableaux, gestures,
poses, and dancingbring the Book of Mormon to
life. - THAT HE WHO RUNS MAY READ

73The Law on the Plates of Brass
We have the history of all ancient America to
record. We do not keep these things on golden
tablets now but in our architecture, sculpture,
and mural decoration of the future they will be
told.
74The House of the World
We shall develop an art as great as the
Egyptians . . . . So should our art be rich in
story and backed by a great faith.
