  • There are 3,000,000 cases reported each year
  • Nearly every child has had Chicken Pox
  • It affects 90 of children and 10 of adults in
    the entire U.S. population

The Name
  • Chicken Pox got its name because people thought
    that the little blisters looked like chick peas.
  • The scientific name is Viracella Zoster.

Morphology
  • This virus likes to live in the medium range of
    temperatures, which is 20C to 40C.
  • There is no information whatsoever on its
    physical characteristics. Such as size and shape.

Infection
  • The Chicken Pox virus infects the trunk of the
    body and the head. Then it will move to the
    extremities.
  • Chicken Pox is an airborne virus meaning that
    when a person that has Chicken Pox is just around
    you and you have never had it your chance of
    getting Chicken Pox is at most 95

The Three Stages of Lesions
  • Vesicle
  • Pustule
  • Crust

The Vesicle Stage
  • The vesicle stage is when you first will know
    that you have Chicken Pox. The infected skin
    will turn red in little blisters that are called
    lesions.

The Pustule Stage
  • The pustule stage is when the lesions become
    filled with fluid. The top of the lesion will
    become depressed and the outer edges of it will
    be inflamed.

The Crust Stage
  • The crust stage is when the lesion will burst.
    When the lesion bursts you are usually not
    contagious any longer. The lesions that have all
    burst will now crust over.

The Symptoms
  • Coughing
  • Sneezing
  • Fever
  • Lesions
  • Sore Throat
  • Abdominal Pains
  • Head Aches
  • The symptoms usually take about three weeks in
    order to fully show up. 13 to 21 days. It
    usually depends on how strong your immunity
    system is.
