Who is this course for?
  • The Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling
    is for those who have already completed, or who
    are in the process of completing, a Certificate
    course in Counselling (or its equivalent) and
    intending to work as a counsellor in the helping
    professions, service sector (paid or voluntary),
    in independent practice and/or to enhance their
    current professional work roles.

Where and when?
  • Two years part-time at the University of Leeds,
    Tuesdays from 9.30am 5.00pm in Baines Wing,
    Leeds campus.

What will I learn?
  • Humanistic/Existential, Psychodynamic and other
    psychological theories and approaches to
    therapeutic counselling
  • how to synthesise an evolving personal
    integration of self as applied in the context of
    the therapeutic relationship in clinical practice
  • awareness of personal material as it informs and
    affects the therapeutic relationship
  • a working knowledge of the BACP Ethical Framework
    for Good Practice in Counselling and
    Psychotherapy
  • confidence in working with the supervision
    process and the maintenance of client material
    familiarity with key published texts and journal
    papers
  • the essential features of ethical and
    professional therapeutic counselling

What do I need to apply?
  • Successful completion of an approved Certificate
    in Counselling course of training or equivalent.
  • Access to a client group of at least two/three
    people a week within an appropriate counselling
    agency setting.
  • Preparedness to participate in group, pair and
    individual experiential learning activities.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal and professional
    development.
  • Show evidence of academic skills necessary for
    written work at HE Level 1.
  • Be able to use a PC for personal study, including
    word processing, e-mail and internet.
  • Acceptance is dependent upon a successful
    interview.

Assessment
  • Students will be assessed on their awareness of,
    and fluency in, the application of counselling
    theory and skills through research, reports,
    presentations, essays, case studies, personal and
    professional development statements, taped
    practice sessions and client work along with
    reports from their counselling supervisor in each
    of the 2 years.

Tuition Fees and Additional Costs
  • Tuition Fees for 2009-10 2,420 p.a. (home / EU)
  • Additional Costs Approx. 40 per hr. for
  • Personal Therapy
  • A minimum of 40 hrs Personal Therapy over the 2
    years of the programme
  • Clinical Supervision
  • One hour per fortnight of clinical supervision
    whilst in practice with clients

Classification
  • With successful achievement in all modules
    students will be awarded the University of Leeds
    Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling with
    90 credits at Level 2 and 90 credits at Level 3.
