- The strap and associated webbing that anchors the
top of the child restraint to the vehicle body
4Weight limits of tethers by automobile
manufacturer
- Most vehicles have a weight limit of 40 pounds
- 48 pounds limit
- Audi, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep/Eagle, Plymouth, VW
(except for the Passat and New Beetle) -
- 60-80 pound limit
- Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Subaru
- 60 lbs for shell type CR, 80 for harness/vest

- Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children
- an acronym used in the US to refer to the child
restraint anchorage system phased in (Sept 02)
for CR and vehicles under FMVSS 225 and 213.
6Lower Anchor Connectors
- The assembly (connector, adjuster and webbing) on
a child restraint that connects it to a lower
anchor in the vehicle, regulated by FMVSS 213 - More commonly a flexible attachment strap

- Some CSS models will have rigid connection
systems -
- These connectors are convenient but more
expensive.

- When available, LATCH was used 50 of the time.
- LA used 58 of the time

- 20 of participants used SB and LATCH together
- 10 misuse of tethers
- 20-30 were installed too loose
- As far as ease of use most participants preferred
using LA -
