• Defined as the inflammation or irritation of a
  tendon.
• Examples Achilles Tendonitis, Tennis Elbow

Causes of Tendonitis

• Sports injuries
• -poor training conditions
• -bad shoes
• -hard ground
• -irregular training
• -sports injuries are the number one
• cause of tendonitis.

Causes of Tendonitis

• Major Trauma
• Infection
• Degeneration
• Strenuous work

Incidence/Prevalence

• Not specific to one race.
• Athletes are at greater risk
• Usually more men than women due to manual labor
  jobs.

Pathology

• Tendon have a very strong attachment to bone and
  are not able to be stretched.
• Shortening of the muscle creates a pull on
  tendons, causing tendonitis.

Symptoms

• Pain or irritation of the affected area.
• Warm burning sensation.
• Painful even at rest or at night.

Diagnosis

• Physical examination
• MRI photos or ultra sound
• stethoscope

Treatments

• Ice and elevation
• Anti inflammatory drugs, or antibiotics.
• Physical therapy
• Corticosteroid injections
• Surgery

Prevention

• Stretching regularly
• Strengthen the muscle around the tendon
• Exercise
• Avoid overuse
