Regions Key Characteristics

• The total population of the 10 ASEAN member
  countries is about 550 million of people.
• The total GDP of the ASEAN region is about US2.1
  trillion. Per capita GDP (PPP) ranged from a low
  US 1,600 (Cambodia) to a very high US 25,000
  (Singapore).
• Total electricity consumption amounted to about
  350 billion kWh per annum.
• The electrification rate ranges from a full level
  (100 percent) for Brunei and Singapore to a very
  low level of 10 percent for Myanmar.

A Self-Sustained Regional Market

• Based on statistical information and expert
  interviews
• Total ballast consumption in the region is about
  80-90 million units per annum.
• There are more than 60 ballast manufacturers,
  i.e. brands, in the region capable of
  manufacturing over 70 million units per annum.
• Current major manufacturing bases are in
  Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
• ASEAN imports approximately 20 million units and
  exports approximately 15 million units.

  facilities capable of conducting performance
  testing for fluorescent lamp ballasts in the
  region.
• There are also a number of manufacturers testing
  facilities but most of them are unlikely to be
  accredited.
