Title: The Call of God

1
The Call of God
  • the early years of King David

2
Foundational principles regarding the call of
God.
  • The call of God is not a formula, it is about
relationship with our Creator, Friend and Lord.
He has designed a perfect plan for each of us as
    His children.
  • For we are Gods masterpiece. He has created
us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good
things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2
    10 (New Living Translation)
  • God wants to reveal his will to us. It is not a
big secret that He is keeping from us that is
    difficult to find.
  • Dont copy the behavior and customs of
this world, but let God transform you into a new
person by changing the way you think. Then you
will learn to know Gods will for you, which is
good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 122 (NLT)

1 Samuel 161-13
  • But the Lord said to Samuel, Dont judge by
his appearance or height, for I have rejected
him. The Lord doesnt see things the way you see
them. People judge by outward appearance, but the
Lord looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 167
  • 1) God does not choose us because of our
    strength but because of His.
  • Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that
few of you were wise in the worlds eyes or
powerful or wealthy when God called you. 27
Instead, God chose things the world considers
foolish in order to shame those who think they
are wise. And he chose things that are powerless
to shame those who are powerful. 28 God chose
things despised by the world, things counted as
nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing
what the world considers important. 29 As a
result, no one can ever boast in the presence of
    God. 1 Corinthians 126-29

1 Samuel 1732-37
  • 32 Dont worry about this Philistine, David
told Saul. Ill go fight him!  33 Dont be
  • ridiculous! Saul replied. Theres no way you
can fight this Philistine and possibly win
  • Youre only a boy, and hes been a man of war
    since his youth.
  •  34 But David persisted. I have been taking care
of my fathers sheep and goats, he
  • said. When a lion or a bear comes to steal a
lamb from the flock, 35 I go after it with a
  • club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the
animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw
  • and club it to death. 36 I have done this to
both lions and bears, and Ill do it to this
  • pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the
armies of the living God! 37 The Lord who
  • rescued me from the claws of the lion and the
bear will rescue me from this
  • Philistine!  Saul finally consented. All
right, go ahead, he said. And may the Lord be
  • with you! 1 Samuel 1732-37
  • 2) God will equip you for your call.

1 Samuel 1748-51
  • 48 As Goliath moved closer to attack, David
quickly ran out to meet him. 49 Reaching
  • into his shepherds bag and taking out a stone,
he hurled it with his sling and hit the
  • Philistine in the forehead. The stone sank in,
and Goliath stumbled and fell face down on
  • the ground.
  •  50 So David triumphed over the Philistine with
only a sling and a stone, for he had no
  • sword. 51 Then David ran over and pulled
Goliaths sword from its sheath. David used it
  • to kill him and cut off his head. 1 Samuel
    1748-51
  • 3) When the Lord calls us, we need to be quick
    to run to the battle.

  • All who call on God in true faith, earnestly
from the heart, will certainly be heard, and will
receive what they have asked and desired,
although not in the hour or in the measure, or
the very thing which they ask. Yet they will
obtain something greater and more glorious than
    they had dared to ask.
