4Review
- I Samuel ends with Sauls last battle with the
Philistines - The Israelites were defeated and Saul was killed
along with three of his sons, including Jonathan - The Israelites living in the Jezreel Valley fled
across the Jordan, and the Philistines moved into
their cities behind them

sons to the wall of the city of Beth-shan - Men from Jabesh-Gilead came by night and
recovered the bodies - They took them back to Jabesh, burned the bones,
and buried them
6Review
- Prior to the battle, David and his men had joined
the Philistine army in Aphek at the request of
King Achish - However, the Philistine commanders refused to

destroyed and their families and possesions gone

- On the 3rd day after David returned to Ziklag, a
man arrived from Sauls camp - David anxiously asked him what had happened
- He told David that Israel had fled and Saul and
Jonathan were dead

- David mourns (II Sam 11-27)
- The man told David that he happened upon King
Saul leaning upon his spear - The Philistines were near King Saul asked the
man to kill him - The man did as Saul asked showed David his
crown bracelet
10Note
- Remember, we have already learned how King Saul
asked his armor bearer to kill him. The armor
bearer refused Saul killed himself. Most
likely, this man wanted Davids favor thought
this would be the way to get it. He probably
found the King already dead just took his crown
bracelet.
11The Reign of David
- David mourns (II Sam 11-27)
- David was very upset at this news
- He tore his clothes he and all his men mourned
- He then asked the young man who he was
- The man replied, I am an Amalekite.
12II Samuel 114-16
So David said to him, "How was it you were not
afraid to put forth your hand to destroy the
LORD's anointed?" Then David called one of the
young men and said, "Go near, and execute him!"
And he struck him so that he died. So David said
to him," Your blood is on your own head, for your
own mouth has testified against you, saying, 'I
have killed the LORD's anointed.'"

- The fact that Ish-bosheth ruled from Gilead and
was not in the old capital indicates that Abners
declaration that he was king over all Israel
was an empty claim.

long will it be then until you tell the people to
return from pursuing their brethren? And Joab
said, "As God lives, unless you had spoken,
surely then by morning all the people would have
