Introduction
  • Nomads are communities of people, called tribes,
    that move from place to place
  • They do not settle in one location and move
    constantly
  • There are approximately 35 million nomads in the
    world
  • Nomadic behavior is uncommon in industrialized
    countries
  • There are three kinds of Nomads
  • Hunter-gatherers
  • Pastoral nomads
  • Peripatetic nomads

Nomadic travel
  • Nomads move depending on their needs and the
  • environmental influences, including the weather
  • They travel by animals, canoe or by foot
  • They usually live in tents
  • They often have herds of cattle which travel
    with them

Animals and the Herd
  • Nomads are dependent on their animals for
    transport
  • and food
  • Most Nomads are herders and raise sheep and
    goats
  • and move to make sure that conditions are good
  • for their cattle and crops
  • Nomads must keep their animals healthy to
    survive
  • They use every part of their animal for survival
    and trade
  • animals or animal products for money
  • If the Nomad tribe has a large herd this is an
    indication of
  • wealth
  • Nomads in Islam countries are dependent on the
    camel and some
  • Nomads breed camels for their milk

Equipment
  • Nomads have few possessions
  • The Nomads possessions, which include pots, pans
  • and clothing, are packed tightly and do not weigh
    much so it is easier to travel
  • Most Nomads usually travel near water, like
    oases and rivers

Children
  • Nomad children learn at an early age how
  • to raise herds
  • It is difficult for Nomad children to spend
  • much time at school because they move
  • around so much
  • Sometimes teachers travel with the children
  • Some children stay in one place to go to
  • School while their parents move herding
  • Animals and making money
