  • Antigone v. Ismene

  • What is a more modern view of this debate? (i.e.
If this were today, what type of women would each
    of these be?)
  • Is Ismene a bad person?
  • We are only women/We cannot fight with men,
    Antigone! (46-47)

Parados
  • Technically, the first ode. It is the first words
spoken by the Chorus and Choragos
  • Ode Poems delivered by the chorus that divide
the scenes. No curtain in Greek theatre, so the
odes will show the passage of time between
    scenes.
  • Chorus Group of people who are watching the
action unfold and comment on it. Like spectators
who are a part of the production. Extras.
    Townspeople.
  • Choragos The leader of the chorus. Actually
interacts with the characters of the play.
Intercedes on the part of the other chorus
    members.

    else?
  • Choragos
  • What do you make of him?
  • Does he respect Creon?
  • Is he a wise man? An honorable one?

Scene 1

  • What news does he bring?
  • Why is Polyneices only slightly buried?
  • What kind of person is he?
  • Humorous how?
  • What are his feelings toward Creon and Creons
    law?
