Title: SERA Expectations and evaluation criteria
1SERA Expectations and evaluation criteria
2Needs-based Emphasishttp//www.cals.ncsu.edu/saae
sd/infobook/guide/method.htm
- Describe the need as indicated by stakeholders
- Are the proposed objectives being addressed in
any other way within the region? - Why is this (SERA) the best mechanism to achieve
these objectives? - What are the expected benefits or impacts?
- Who are the stakeholders, customers, and/or
consumers for which the activity is intended?
3Tangible Outputshttp//www.cals.ncsu.edu/saaesd/i
nfobook/guide/method.htm
- Research e.g., publications, collaboration,
standard experimental protocols - Extension e.g., multistate programming,
educational materials, modules
4Expected Outcomes/Impact http//www.cals.ncsu.edu
/saaesd/infobook/guide/method.htm
- Coordination of specific research and/or
extension programs. - Exchange of ideas and/or information/data.
- Generate interest in a specific research and/or
extension area (e.g., a symposium or workshop). - Publication of joint research and/or extension
articles and/or review articles on a common
issue.
5Expected Outcomes/Impacthttp//www.cals.ncsu.edu/
saaesd/infobook/guide/method.htm
- Evaluation and standardization of methods or
techniques leading to the development of a common
protocol or best management practice. - Identification of critical/key research and/or
education issues. - Development of multistate curriculum materials
for training of staff or customers.
6Educational Plan http//www.cals.ncsu.edu/saaesd/
infobook/guide/method.htm
- Plans for disseminating information/outputs to
stakeholder groups - With some, difficult to get this emphasis on
stakeholder-based outputs, outcomes and impacts - Problem one of history?
7Expectationshttp//www.cals.ncsu.edu/saaesd/infob
ook/guide/sera.htm
- The existing description of IEGs will be used to
define the SERA until it is scheduled for
renewal, at which point the proposal for renewal
will be prepared and reviewed as a SERA. - Prior emphasis on exchanging information, not
outputs, outcomes, impact.
8Expectations/Evaluation http//www.cals.ncsu.edu/
saaesd/infobook/guide/sera.htm
- SERAs are intended to bring together researchers
and extension specialists sharing a common
problem, issue, or disciplinary interest. - The general objective is to provide a
functionally integrated forum to coordinate joint
activities to address stakeholder needs.
9SERA Evaluation Criteria
- Goals and objectives clearly stated and
appropriate to R/E integrated activity - There is a good potential to attain the
integrated objectives and plan - Potential outcomes from the activity are
identified for both research and extension.
10SERA Evaluation Criteria
- SERA does not duplicate existing activities and
addresses priorities in both research and
extension. - Activity has moved beyond individual activities
and ideas to a collective, integrated activity
with appropriately balanced involvement of
research and extension participants.
11SERA Evaluation Criteria(informal Brown, Ort,
Trapp)
- Participation if it is a SERA, we want
Extension to participate (Appendix E) - Joint proposals, e.g., SCRI, eXtension, AFRI
- More specific potential outputs and impacts, and
associated measures multistate collaborative
extension programming.
