The Sports Council

• There are 5 sports councils.
• There jobs include
• To develop grass roots sport
• Promote excellence in sport
• Give grants from the Lottery Sports Fund
• To help bring International Sports events to
  Britain.

The Central Council for Physical Recreation (CCPR)

• It is an umbrella organisation for over 270
  governing bodies and associations from all areas
  of sport and recreation.
• It has six committees games/sports, major
  spectator sports, movement and dance, outdoor
  pursuits, water recreation, interested
  organisations.
• There aims are
• To encourage participation
• To represent and promote the interests of its
  members.

National Governing Bodies

• Examples are the FA, ECB, EBBA.
• They are responsible for
• Drawing up rules for sports
• Organising tournaments
• Selecting teams
• Settling disputes
• Managing and coaching officials
• Help develop facilities
• Maintaining links with similar organisations
  abroad.

The Sports Aid Foundation

• They raise money to help athletes by sponsorship
  and donations from businesses and local
  authorities.
• They give grants
• Top athletes
• Promising young athletes

International Olympic Committee

• It is the top committee of the Olympic Movement.
• The get their money from broadcast rights and
  sponsorship.
• Its main jobs are
• Select cities and venues from bids
• Decide the sports to be included
• Work with the host city to plan the games
• To lead the fight against drugs in sport.

The British Olympic Association

• It is part of the Olympic Movement.
• Its jobs are
• Selecting a team for the Olympics
• Raise money to send the team
• Make all arrangements to get there
• To work with NGBs to prepare the athletes.

The Countryside Commission

• They look after the English countryside and
  advises the government on countryside matters.
• It is involved in
• Looking after the National Parks
• Restoring public rights of way
