  • This acronym is a tool to remember when and where
    to use a comma.

2
SINIFAC
  • S- Series
  • I- Introducer
  • N- Non-essential information
  • I- Interrupter
  • F- Fanboy

3
S- Series or list of items
  • Items in a series of three or more elements
  • Three examples of narratives are Of Plymouth
Plantation, The Interesting Narrative of the
Life of Olaudah Equiano, and Amistad.

4
I- Introducer for a sentence
  • Words or phrase used to introduce the complete
sentence. (complete sentence must have subject
    and predicate)
  • However, many narratives are poems or novels.

5
N- Non-essential information or phrases
  • A phrase that gives additional information. The
phrase is not necessary to understand the main
    idea of the sentence.
  • Creation myths, which document the beliefs of
    different cultures, have many similarities.

6
I- Interrupter in a sentence
  • Phrase that interrupts the complete sentence. It
can be an introducer, or it can be in between the
subject and the predicate (or verb).
  • The best thing to do after reading, interestingly
    enough, is to write.

7
F- FANBOYS
  • A word used to connect two complete sentences.
    Also called conjunctions.
  • For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So
  • Writing helps students to analyze information,
and it is an opportunity for self-expression.

8
A- Appositives (to rename)
  • Word or phrase that renames the preceding word or
    phrase.
  • The research paper, our biggest writing project,
will require the use of all the reading and
writing skills in the state standards.

9
C- Common Usage
  • Dates, addresses, greetings, closings, and after
    direct quotes.
  • October 10, 2006
