    qualified or waivered.

    beginning Fall 2006.

  • Scholarship or Advanced Standing
  • Completed DODMERB physical
  • Free of injury or illness
  • VALID Military ID
  • Secret or Interim Secret Clearance
  • At least 3/C Swim qualified
  • Required Immunizations

Wardroom Etiquette
  • Stand behind your chair and wait until the CO
    sits then seat yourself.
  • Be professional and maintain good etiquette
  • Wait until the CO starts eating before you start.
  • If you arrive to the meal late, request
    permission to join the mess. Once you have
    permission sit down and enjoy.
  • If you must leave early- request permission to
    leave the mess.
  • Ask your running mate about this!!

Second Class Midshipmen Cruise Perspective
  • This is an extremely important cruise for you.
    You gain perspective on how your people will live
    and feel when you are in charge of them. Learn
    from them. 
  • Sophomores you will live, work, and be treated
    essentially as enlisted personnel
  • You are expected to interact socially with
    enlisted personnel.
  • Go on liberty with them
  • Stay Professional

3/C Career Orientation and Training (CORTRAMID)
  • 4 weeks in either Norfolk, VA or San Diego, CA
    (depends on where you live)
  • 1 week exposure to Surface, Sub, Aviation, and
    Marine communities
  • HAVE FULLY BROKEN-IN BOOTS PRIOR TO ARRIVING!!!!!
  • You will have a PFA within 2 days of checking in.

Requesting a Cruise
  • Fill out on-line request form (09 16 Feb)
    http//www.tulane.edu/nrotc/summercruise.html
  • I submit requests to NETC
  • I receive billets a month or so before the
    cruises start, and I match mids to billets.
  • Contact information is crucial
  • Airport of departure is also critical!
  • Departure Airport determines East or West Coast
    cruise. Exceptions include reasons in request

  • Required Immunizations
  • PPD (Mantoux) within 36 months
  • Tetanus-Diphtheria within 10 years
  • MMR (no periodicity)
  • Yellow Fever (Africa, Cent South Amer.)
  • Typhoid and Polio (Cent South Amer., Med,
    Caribbean, Africa, Middle East, SE Asia)
  • Hand carry Certificate of Vaccination with you!

Additional Requirements
  • Sickle Cell screening required for Aviation at
    CORTRAMID.
  • Hematocrit SHOULD be in your DODMERB physical and
    is required
  • Submarine Cruises require Class-2 Dental

  • 1/C Aviation Cruise Requires
  • Physically qualified for pilot or NFO
  • Current Aviation Up-Chit (good for 180 days)
  • 2nd class swimmer qualified
  • Certification as a Selected Passenger (Aviation
    Physiology)
  • YNC will coordinate with you to schedule these
    items

  • Appropriate Civilian Clothes
  • Sufficient Cash to Cover Entire Trip
  • Excess money should be in travelers checks
  • Credit and ATM cards work most places
  • Passports will be required for some cruises
  • REMEMBER! You will have very limited storage
    space.

Travel and Reporting
  • Midshipman are to travel and report in Summer
    Whites unless traveling overseas.
  • We will give you a one-way flight. The training
    unit books your return.
  • Typically, someone will meet you at the airport.
    Otherwise seek out the Military Info Desk or USO.

  • Save all your receipts or you will not be
    reimbursed.
  • Only selected items are reimbursable
  • Fill out travel claim as soon as you return.
    (Freshmen will liquidate at CORTRAMID)

 How to Get Onboard a Ship
  • If the flag is flying on the ensign staff
  • Cross gang plank, at the edge and the ship side
    of the plank, face aft and salute the ensign.
    Drop salute.
  • Next face towards the OOD, salute again and say,
    Request permission to come aboard. The OOD
    will return your salute and tell you to come
    aboard

How to Get Off the Ship (Liberty)
  • Between morning and evening colors
  • Go to quarterdeck face the OOD, salute, and say
    Request permission to go ashore. The OOD will
    return your salute and tell you to go ashore.
  • Step on the gang plank, face aft salute the
    ensign. Drop salute and go on Liberty!

How to Get On/Off the Ship (contd)
  • Between Sunset and Morning Colors (when the flag
    is not flying) just salute the OOD not the
    flag.
  • In civilian clothes the procedure is exactly the
    same except you do not salute just come to
    attention

  • You represent the US when in foreign countries.
    Act accordingly.

  • No hard luggage
  • No guitars
  • Dont remove classified material
  • No guns, knives, or other weapons
  • Dont wear your NROTC insignia, or your
    midshipman rank shoulder boards

 Overseas Leave
  • Midshipmen may request permission to begin or
    terminate their active duty training in an
    overseas port in conjunction with their summer
    training.
  • Catch you must pay the travel expenses as
    appropriate

WARNING
  • Excessive travel delays to and from cruise may
    occur during WESTPAC and MED cruises. Parents
    and friends should bear this in mind when
    planning to meet midshipmen at debarkation ports.
