    Sarajevo, in Bosnia-Herzegovina, by Serbian
    nationalists who were pushing for union with
    Serbia.

    Austro-Hungarian Empire a blank check for any
    Austrian action in response to the
    assassination.
  • 23rd July, 1914, the Austro-Hungarian government
    demanded that Serbia arrest and send three
    organizers of the assassination to Vienna for
    trial. Serbia refused and on 28th July
    Austro-Hungary declared war on Serbia.

    support of Serbia, includes mobilizing near
    German and Austrian borders.
  • 1st August, 1914 Germany declares war on Russia.

  • 3rd August, 1914 Germany declares war on France.
    Britain warns Germany that she will go to war if
    Belgium is invaded.
  • 4th August, 1914. Germany marches into Belgium.
    Britain declares war on Germany sends
    expeditionary force to Europe. German troops
    advance close to Paris (to the Marne river),
    France almost falls, troops dig in (trenches
    set).
